Have you ever felt like you have so many clothes, yet you have nothing to wear? We know that it is not about the clothes but how you wear it. Here is how to dress better with the clothes you have, a broke girls guide.

In my twenties, I always felt I don’t have the right clothes. Also, I felt you need to wear expensive clothes or designer outfits to look good. Well, I was so wrong. You can look chic with thrift clothes if worn better. I wish I knew this earlier on, I would have created more looks with my existing closet. You can look like money by mixing high street brands with thrift. Also, you can wear designer inspired pieces to elevate your look. Unsure about dupes, check out my blog post on designer vs dupes.

How can you make your current closet work well for you? This is by styling them several ways. In this blog post, I will be sharing my tips on how to dress better with the clothes you already have. So, you need not go shopping or throw out your current closet. If that is why you’re here, lets dive right in.

How to dress better with the clothes you have

Looking good is not about the money in your account. I have shared some of the best ways to look like money wearing old money looks or aesthetic. If you love the old money aesthetic, check out my post on old money wardrobe essentials to get you started. I am sure you already have some of these essentials in your closet.

So, before I dive into these tips on how to dress, let’s talk about how to figure your personal style.

How to dress better with the clothes you have

What is your aesthetic? Old money, clean girl, mob wife or plain gothic

If you have been on the internet, you must have heard of this aesthetics. Old money aesthetics is similar to minimalism. If you love whites, gray, blacks or navy, this aesthetic will be right up your alley. Other see this as clean girl aesthetic. You look polished, neat and put togther.

Mob wife aesthetics is more about stealth wealth. You dress with your huge fur coats, all black looks, red lipstick, pair of heels and leopard print outfits. I will say I love mob wife aesthetic because I can’t get over leopard print outfits. Although, I will not wear it in coats but silk tops, maxi skirts or leopard print pants. That’s my vibe.

Don’t know how to wear leopard prints. Check out my blog post on how to mix and match prints. It will get you started. Anyhoo, to figure out your personal style, you need to know what you feel confident in. Who are you watching as your style icon? What do they wear?

For me, my style icon is Monroe Steele, an OG blogger and youtuber. Her style is more of chic, grown woman, edgy as she loves her statement pieces and casual.

Another thing to note for your personal style is your lifestyle. Are you such that shops for fancy dresses but have nowhere to wear it? As a lady in corporate, I have 90% of my outfits as work clothes. And just a little under 10% as casual outfits. So, you know I will naturally love tailored outfits, suits set, dresses that fits smart. However, If I am home, I go for comfort but fitted outfits. I don’t like anything oversize. Thats not me.

Look into your closet and sort through your clothes. Pick out outfits that fits into your lifestyle. Stop spending money on evening dresses when you know you hardly go for dinners or events. Be real with yourself.

Use apps to figure out your style

One of the best ways to dress better and figure out your style is by using apps. Like I said, you follow an influencer for a reason. Because you like the influencer style, and you draw inspiration from them.

An easy app to figure out your style is by using Instagram. Screen shot looks that you love and would like to recreate. This will help you maximize your closet.

Another app to use is Pinterest. One of my favorite search engines for clothes is Pinterest. You can simply search how to mix prints and patterns. Also, you can search for the best ways to pair two or more colors. My favorite way to use Pinterest is search for looks for seasons; summer, autumn/ fall, winter etc.

if you’re a fan of celebrity fashion, of course you can search for their style. The closet celebrity that her style resonates with me is Tracee Ellis Ross. I love her personal. And OfCourse, I always put a spin on it.

Favorite outfit formulas for elevated looks

When I first heard the word, outfit formulas, i was quite confused. Do outfits have formulas too? Yes, it does. These are simple tricks and tips for an elevated chic look.

So, here are my favorite outfit formulas to follow.

  • Monochrome looks are easy to pull off. Pairing the same colors or different tones of the same color always looks chic. It takes no brain cell to put together a monochrome outfit. My favorite way to go monochrome is styling whites or shades of brown. These looks chic and fun
  • If you love prints but don’t want to look like a drab queen. Wear prints that share the same color. You can wear two print colors that will looks like you’re a fashion girl. Another way to wear prints is to mix prints with cohesive colors. Like green and yellow look good together, brown and black are fun etc.
  • Stick to the 3-color rule: One of my favorite outfit formulas is to ensure the maximum color on my outfit per time is 3. You can go with one color or different tones, two colors that work well together and of course 3 colors max.
  • Match your accessories as one color: One easy way to look put together is to match your accessories as one color. For example, for a brown and white look. Go with a brown belt, brown heels or flats and brown fedora hats. You can even use the same color as your hair tie or scrunchie.

Pair at least two textures together

I love to wear two textures for a great put together looks. You can pair leather with satin or leather with knits. My favorite combo is knit with leather or denim. These two textures get me all the time.

Try to work with at least two textures with your looks. In this way you get to style what you have to create an effortless look. Another fun texture combo is suiting blazer over sheer skirts or pants. This was very popular during the fashion week especially Copenhagen fashion week as well as New York fashion week.

Accessorize your looks

Many of us ladies wear our looks with earrings, shoes and bag. However, you can do more with several accessories. A pair of sneakers, a satin scarf, fedora hats or beret can take your look to 100.

I have trying to switch up my looks with my existing closet. And ever since I started working with scarves, girl, my looks went to 100. You can wear scarves with your bag, as a neckerchief, as a head tie or even a belt. I have gone into details on how to wear scarves effortlessly.

Shop for more jewelry

So far in this post, I never mentioned shop for more clothes. Although, if you typically shop from high street brands for quality pieces, it will last you for years.

I typically shop for clothes from AliExpress, ego shoes, Shein and other Shein alternatives. Another place that I shop for quality pieces is via thrift shopping. Yes, thrift. I have scored some of my favorite quality pieces from shopping thrift. You get quality leather jackets, suede pants or jackets, and even great vintage designer bags.

You need good quality jewelry to elevate your look. Sis, you need more than earrings in your closet. Shop for bracelets, cuffs, anklets, waist beads, necklaces of different sizes etc.

Even if you need to update your clothes or declutter. Shop according to your lifestyle. Don’t shop on a whim or because you saw it on your favorite influencer. Retail therapy is great but having savings is also great.

Okay guys which of these tips on how to dress better with the clothes you have do you love? Have you already started applying any of these tips. Feel free to share your thoughts below.

How to dress better with the clothes you have: broke girl guide

Skims by Kim Kardashian have got many women raving, and I’m not even surprised. However the pricing yet great for the quality is quite expensive. So here are the best places to buy skims dupe or look alike for way cheaper.

It’s one thing to admire these outfits, and it’s another thing to actually buy them. One of the reasons why not many people buy skims is because of the price. As you can imagine, it is owned by a celebrity, and the cost is premium!

Many shoppers on a budget complain that they cannot afford skims. Fortunately, the market has lots of skim dupes and you can get one for yourself. Curious about where to get skim dupes for affordable prices? I’ll show you in this article!

What are Skim Dupes?

Before going any further, what are skim dupes?

It would be wrong for me to assume that everyone is familiar with skims. I remember going online to search for skims when I first heard my friends talking about them.

Skims are clothes by Kim Kardashian. It’s a clothing line of shapewear, loungewear, underwear, etc. Now, dupes is the short form for look alike or inspired by options.

I detest shopping counterfeits of name brands I can’t afford. It’s is better to save up and buy the real deal. What is the difference between counterfeits dupes.

Counterfeits are products that claim to be the real items. For example a coach counterfeit made to look like the real deal and even sold at close to designer price . However, dupes are quite similar to the real items but made to draw inspiration from the designer items.

Dupes or look alike don’t claim to be real item. Also are sold for way less.

So, skim dupes are products that closely mimic the design, material, and overall aesthetics of skims by Kim Kardashian.

Best places to buy Skims dupe on a budget

I know you love skims by Kim Kardashian but…the price can be a bummer. So we have done the hard work for you and did a round up of the best places to buy skims look alike.

What are eSIMS for travelers and do I need it? Just a little background story will explain this. I traveled to the Republic of Benin with my Sim card, with no plans to get the local Sims. Guess what?

I couldn’t locate my hotel. And of course no network connection. Sadly, I can barely speak French. How will I say WI-FI in French? Later found out it sounds the same way ( kind of whether French or English) . Thank God for a good samaritan who assisted us with getting a bike that knew our hotel.

Anyway, all those would have been averted with an Android device eSIM. Do you need an eSIM now?

What is an E-Sim?

An E-sim is as the word implies! The concept of owning a sim has moved past the era when we had to depend on physical sims. Now, you can have a sim that is installed into your device and can connect to any service provider that provides E-Sim services. How cool is that?

You might be wondering how this concerns you as a traveler and this is the part that gets me excited the most! Most times when I travel, I always have to get the sim of the country I’m visiting so I can be connected to the internet. It’s either I get a new sim or strategically position myself in places with Wifi.

The positioning doesn’t always work as I get disconnected from the internet at times when I have to step out and explore the country. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to know the number of sims I have from other countries.

But with the concept of E-Sims now, I do not have to keep buying new sims when I travel to new places. Instead, I can try to connect to service providers that provide ESim services in that country. So, my one sim will work wherever I visit!

Airalo is one of my favorite eSIMS that I highly recommend. Why get Airalo? Below are the benefits.

  • With Airalo’s eSIMs, travelers can access the Internet from virtually any country on the planet and don’t have to pay excessive roaming charges.
  • Travelers don’t need to waste their time looking for a local plastic SIM card. The eSIM can be activated either immediately after installation or upon arrival at the traveler’s destination.
  • A wide range of eSIMs are available for different countries and regions. The tourist does not even have to buy a card for a specific country. If he/she intends to travel, he/she can buy a regional eSIM on Airalo. For example, there are eSIMs available for the entire continent of Europe.
  • The support team is available 24/7/365 and is happy to offer prompt assistance via chat on the Airalo website, social media, or email.

So, sign up for Airalo on your next trip.

Benefits of eSIMS for travelers

If you need more reasons to be convinced about getting an E-Sim, especially as a frequent traveler, some of them are:

Saves Cost

I’m usually not the happiest when I have to buy a new sim anytime I’m in a new country. You’d always see me grumbling and squeezing myself. But buying these sims are always inevitable, especially as I want to stay connected to loved ones.

Let me tell you, the price of getting a new sim and having it activated as a foreigner in a new country isn’t cheap. The money I spend on these new sims is something I would have rather spent on other tourist activities.

There’s also the fact that I get charged for international roaming which is another expense. I’m overly happy that I can say goodbye to that era now.

With the concept of eSims for travelers, I don’t have to spend money on buying physical sims anymore, and neither do you. Now, we get to save costs and use our money for other interesting things!

Convenience

As much as I try not to think about it, I sometimes cringe when I remember how I’ve lost or broken some of my sims in the process of swapping sims when I get to a new country. Dark times I must say.

I would be more than happy if I never have to take out my sim because those things are very fragile. It’s one of the reasons why I preach the good news of E-Sims to every frequent traveler now.

You no longer have to deal with the inconvenience of swapping sims when you use an E-Sim! Now, you can relax and have peace of mind that your sim would work in any country you visit.

Network Access

One of the beautiful things I found out about E-Sims is how they are not tied to a specific network operator. For example, if I use only Network A and own a physical sim, I would be stuck with that provider even when there is no network.

But with an E-sim, I do not have to be stuck to any specific provider. The E-Sim would easily switch between available networks and select the one with the strongest signal strength or the most favorable data packages. This enhanced coverage ensures that you stay connected in areas where a particular network might have limited reach, providing you with a more reliable communication experience throughout your travels.

Feel free to comment on other challenges you’ve had while traveling. Also, share your budget-friendly travel tips for travelers. Don’t forget to sign up on Airalo, one of the best eSIMS for travelers

Another of the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Africa is Ghana. I did not have high expectations when visiting Ghana. For some reason, I was indifferent about it. However, the country left me in awe after a few days, and I have become Ghana’s regular visitor.

The energy and vibe in Ghana are always high and positive. It is why visitors never want to leave when they visit.

Below are some of the fun activities to do in Ghana:

– Go to the local market: There is always something to buy when you visit a Ghanaian market. I don’t know how they do it, but I always love in love with the displayed wares. As someone who loves getting souvenirs from different countries, I always have fun exploring the local markets in Ghana.

– Go on the canopy walk: I was excited when I learned about the canopy walk as it seemed different from regular activities. Yes, I was scared to try it. But it turned out fantastic. I’ll always recommend the Kakum canopy walk to anyone visiting Ghana.

– Attend a local festival: Attending a local festival is one of the best ways to mingle with the locals in Ghana. It is always fun as it is nothing short of merriment.

Cape coast and Elimina Castle tour: another fun activity you can do is to visit cape coast or Elmina castle in Ghana. These castles were built by European traders that stayed in Ghana according to history. It is a very chilled instagrammable place to visit in Ghana. So, if you’re a content creator, you can get great pictures while learning about Ghanian history. Click here to book your tour at Elmina and cape coast, Ghana.

8. Cote d’Ivoire

I’ve always believed that having fun in a country isn’t dependent on the country’s size, and Cote d’Ivoire proved me correct. From its capital city to Abidjan and other regions of the country, I had a swell time exploring when I visited. It is a great option for the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Africa on a budget.

Go to a park: Cote d’Ivoire has beautiful scenery, and I loved visiting their gardens with a novel. I felt most of my evenings having quiet times, and at other times I would chat with people at the parks. It was a wholesome experience.

– Go on a night drive: The calmness in this country makes it an excellent location for night drives. However, I would not advise that you do this alone as a foreigner. Instead, make friends with the locals and link up with them when you want to experience a night drive.

– Visit the pubs:  The pubs in the country are the best locations for local beverages. My curiosity made me taste some of these drinks like Bandji, Bissap Juice, Ginger Juice, and others.

9. Cameroon

Another of the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Africa is Cameroon. Cameroon is a place I would want to keep all for myself if I could. Visiting this city allowed me to have an exciting time without spending much. It is a no-brainer for it to be part of the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Africa. Yes, it is also a small country, but there are many things to do for fun.

It is one of those African countries that has a special place in my heart, and I could not help but add it as one of the best African countries to visit.

Some of the fun things I did in Cameroon included:

– Visiting a butterfly farm: Imagine spending all day chasing butterflies without worries. I’m sure a smile has crept on your face with such imagination. Yes, that is how I felt on this farm. I felt happy and free, which I needed at that moment.

– Going hiking: It was also fun exploring the forests of Cameroon, but I had to indulge in the services of a tour guide. Of course, there is always the initial fear that the tour will be boring, but that was not the case. I also learned many new things about Cameroon from the tour guide.

– Going to a cactus farm: As someone who had never been to a cactus farm, I could not pass up the opportunity to visit one. And, you can be sure that I had my camera handy to create memories.

10. Namibia

That Namibia is the last country on this list doesn’t make it less fun or exciting African country to visit. It is one of the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Africa, especially in the southwest.

Below are some of the fun activities to do in Namibia

Visit a craft center:  Namibia has some of the top-notch and exquisite artworks I have seen. Visiting a craft center allows you to learn the process and buy souvenirs. I could spend all my time in a Namibia craft center if I had the opportunity.

– Go site seeing: I could not help but commend the architectural structures while walking around Namibia. The images are imprinted in my head as they were fascinating. Looking at these buildings while taking quiet walks in the evenings gave me an enjoyable stay in Namibia.

 – Go to a leisure park: Namibians are fun people, and you can see this in leisure parks. These people indulge in different games that let them unleash their inner child, and you can also be a part of them.

Enjoy a quad bike ride in the desert of Namibia: I love to go on quad bike rides on my vacations. Quad bike rides are always fun whether on the beach or on the desert sands. Many us want to blog but find it super hard to balance it with our regular jobs. This was my situation when I started blogging 4 years ago. Here is how to balance blogging while working a full time job.

Blogging is a full time business. So, you if want to get the best from blogging and earn from it, you need to be committed to it. How do I balance blogging with a day job? The answer is in your why. Why do you want to start a blog?

If the aim is to create a side income for yourself. Then blogging is a great option of side hustle to engage in. However, you need to put in the work to get value from blogging. Also, blogging is not a GET RICH QUICK scheme, so you need to find time from your day job to blog.

Here are my tips on how to balance blogging while working from a full time job.

Tips for balance blogging while working a full time job

I also find time to create content on my blog. Here are my best tips on how to balance blogging while working a full time. Most times, I hardly have time to myself during my weekend. This is because I have to commit my time to catch with my blog.

Below are my best blogging tips to help you balance blogging while working from home. Some of these tips will come in handy if you work from home to boost productivity.

Time Management

The most difficult thing to manage is time. It seems like the 24 hours in a day is too small to achieve my goals. e.g. putting up a post , studying and working. Sometimes i wish we have 25 hours in a day but trust me if time is well managed, it is more than enough.

A simple time management tip is to have a to do list in which work is at the top of your scale of preference. Your regular job pays the bills so it should get more attention. Blogging or studying can be done intermittently also when your’re at work. Especially during times that work is very slow or not so busy. This trick is what i use to joggle blogging/studying with work so as to make the most the not-so-busy days of the week.

Enjoy the blogging process

Creating content, drafting a blog post, and promotion of blog content is quite an interesting process. For me blogging is enjoyable and the process of creating content is fun. There are also times when you don’t feel blogging or may be going through some form of writers block, its okay to take time off, reset and restart. Make blogging fun and enjoy it to the fullest.

In other to make it quite easier for your blog life, use a simple blog planner. There are a lot of blog planner available at cheaper rate. For me a simple carry on note pad does it making it easy to jot points on the go. Incorporate scheduling for your blog post to social media sites.

This makes it easier to post to a larger audience at right time. One simple app i use for that is Crowd fire. It is easy to use, free for use app. You can also use hoot suites for scheduling your post. It takes of the time and work involved in sharing your post manually on your social media site. You can also read my lesson learnt and personal growth on my blogging journey to inspire you.

Create a schedule for blogging

A blogging schedule will come in handy if you want to balance blogging with your day job. If you don’t want your work life balance to be in jeopardy, create a schedule for blogging.

I only have my weekends for blogging. So, I naturally rest in the early hours of Saturday and blog in the evenings or the next day. This is to avoid burn out from my day job.

Create work schedule for writing content, take pictures for your content and promoting your content. You need to create time for all this things

Outsource if possible

This year, I decided to get an employee to support my blogging. This employee is to create long form articles four times a month. I can say the pay is great.

So, if you can, set asides funds for employees or writers. You can source for writers from places like Fiverr, upwork, or social media. If the pay is great, you will find the best fit for your blog.

Schedule your blog post

The main aim of the content of your blog is to share it with possible readers. However, there is a hardly time to write and share this contents on social media.

The below tools have come in handy for me, Hootsuite especially for twitter shares, publer (free to use) scheduler, Triberr ( Also free) and paid crowd fire. The plus side, you can re-share old blog post using any of the above to get the word out after publishing.

Take time out

The last time is to take time off work. Yes, I said it. Your day job offers you time off because it is needed. So, you need to take time off blogging frequently.

This will help you reset and refresh. Also, this will give you ample time to research new topics in your niche, check out what your competitors are doing also boost your overall well being.

How to earn money from your blog?

The best way to earn money on your blog is to go self hosted or you paid blogging websites. Most brands avoid working with blogs that ends with “blogspot.com” or “wordpress.com”. However, we all know that owning and running a website is not cheap.

I use a very brand for my website, Namecheap. I have been using this brand for a long time. There are times I ruined my website because your girl is not tech savvy, they came through for me. All I have to do is to reach them via the customer chat option. Their customer service is exceptional, so I highly recommend them.

If you want to start off your blog strong, sign up with Namecheap. You can add the an SSL certificate too to rank and make your site secured. This you can purchase also on namecheap.

Other ways to earn while blogging is to join influencer marketing agencies like Intellifluence. This brand offer paid guest post or sponsored post that are within the range of $50-$100 payment. I have earned about $1000 from working with brands on Intellifluence. Imagine if I wanted to do more. Definitely click here to sign up for Intellifluence.

You can also sign up for pay per click adverts on your blog. I highly recommend joining AdSense. This is what I use. However, if you have more traffic i.e. 50,000 session per month, just sign up for media vine. The earnings here is way higher than AdSense.

Feel free to comment other ways you balance blogging while working a day job. Ciao.

Climbing the Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

From a little age, I have always heard about Mount Kilimanjaro – the highest mountain in Africa and I was always fascinated by it. Standing at 19,341 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and one of the Seven Summits.

Climbing this dormant volcano is an unparalleled experience that takes you through five distinct ecosystems—from tropical rainforest to alpine desert. The view from Uhuru Peak, the highest point, is an extraordinary reward for any adventurer.

When you visit this place, ensure that you take along a camera so you can capture all the views!

Exploring the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt

What’s a trip to Egypt without exploring the pyramids? I know we have all heard stories about the mummies of Egypt. But, why not experience these pyramids for yourself?

The pyramids of Giza are one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and they are a must-see. These pyramids were built over 4,500 years ago and stand as a testament to ancient Egyptian civilization and engineering prowess.

Every time I think about these I am always in awe as there are different aspects to hold my fascination. This is your cue to explore the interiors and marvel at the mystery of how these structures were created.

Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda or Uganda

For wildlife enthusiasts, gorilla trekking in the misty rainforests of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park or Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is an unforgettable experience. There is always a certain thrill with coming face-to-face with a family of endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Are you up for it???

Visiting Victoria Falls – Zambia/Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls is one of the largest and most magnificent waterfalls in the world, and is a spectacle to behold. The powerful rush of water creates a mist that can be seen from miles away, giving the falls the local name “Mosi-oa-Tunya” or “The Smoke That Thunders.”

When visiting Victoria Falls, I would recommend that you go for activities like bungee jumping, zip-lining, and white-water rafting that are available nearby. You are sure to have a swell time!

Hot Air Balloon Ride – Namibia

What do you think about riding a hot air balloon over the Namibia’s Namib Desert? I have thought about it so much, and it is on my bucket list for my visit to Namibia.

Interestingly, the Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world. It offers surreal landscapes of towering sand dunes, vast salt pans, and desert-adapted wildlife.

A hot air balloon ride over this majestic expanse allows you to experience the serene beauty of the desert from a bird’s-eye view, particularly at sunrise.

Tracking The Big Five in Kruger National Park – South Africa

If you ever find yourself in South Africa, I recommend that you experience the Kruger National Park as it is one of Africa’s largest game reserves. If you haven’t guessed already, you can see the ‘Big Fives’ at this park.

I like that this park is a safe space for these animals and we get to experience them in their natural habitat. It is also home to over 500 bird species.

Experiencing the Great Rift Valley – Kenya

Have you seen flamingos before? If you haven’t, going to the great rift valley gives you the perfect opportunity to do so.

My favorite thing about this place is the scenery! Dare I say, it is one of the best in Africa, and you cannot help but capture the experiences.

This place is home to diverse ecosystems, including lakes like Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha. Here, you would see flamingos, hippos, and other wildlife. Additionally, bird watching and hiking are top activities to do at this place.

Exploring Yankari National Park – Nigeria

The Yankari National Park is one of Nigeria’s most important wildlife reserves and home to animals like elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and various bird species. It is also home to the Wikki Warm Springs.

I love this place because you get to experience wildlife while also enjoying tranquility. Sometimes, you may not feel like leaving this place when you visit it. It is a must-see destination for nature lovers.

Yankari Natural park, Nigeria

Visiting the Rock Churches of Lalibela – Ethiopia

Lalibela is famous for its 12th-century rock-hewn churches, which were carved directly into the ground as a representation of a “New Jerusalem.” These UNESCO World Heritage sites are sight for the eyes as they depict architectural wonders.

Interestingly, they still stand as active places of worship even in the present day. So if you visit these churches, you also get to learn about Ethiopia’s deep Christain heritage.

Visiting the Markets of Marrakech – Morocco

One reason why people love to visit Morocco is because of the beautiful and bustling markets of Marakkech. These markets are filled with colorful textiles, spices, jewelry and ceramics.

Asides from the markets, the entire city also stands as a wonder to explore. The city’s maze-like streets lead you to palaces, mosques, and gardens, while the aromas of street food invite you to taste the flavors of Moroccan cuisine.

This place should surely be on your list of places to visit!

Stargazing in the Kalahari Desert – Botswana

Although I have never been to Botswana, I have heard so much about the Kalahari Desert, and it is one of the top places on my bucket list. The most fascinating thing about this place to me is that the desert is free of light pollution. This makes it the perfect spot for stargazing.

While in Botswana, you can also visit the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to see wildlife like lions, elephants, and cheetahs.

Walking with the Maasai – Kenya/Tanzania

The Maasai people are one of Africa’s most famous and culturally distinct ethnic groups. A visit to their villages in Kenya or Tanzania allows you to learn about their traditional way of life, including their pastoralist heritage and iconic beadwork.

You will enjoy the fact that these people are very friendly and always ready to welcome foreigners into their space. Some tours offer the opportunity to go on a guided walk with Maasai warriors, learning about local wildlife and survival techniques.

Witnessing the Festival of the Sahara – Tunisia

I always tell people that one of the best ways to explore any African city is to witness their festivals. If you are ever in Tunisia, you need to experience the festival of the sahara in Douz.

It is an annual celebration of nomadic culture, and visitors can experience traditional music, dancing, and camel racing, as well as witness artisans showcasing their crafts. The festival brings together desert tribes and international visitors, offering an authentic cultural exchange in the heart of the Sahara.

Visiting the Island of Goree – Senegal

This island is a UNESCO World Heritage site and was a major center of the Atlantic slave trade. When you visit this island, you can tour the Houses of Slaves museum to learn more about what went down in those times.

The island’s cobbled streets, colonial architecture, and museums also make it a culturally rich destination.

Diving with Whale Sharks – Mozambique

This one is for adventure seekers who are very daring. Mozambique’s coastline is renowned for its vibrant marine life, particularly the opportunity to swim and snorkel with whale sharks, the world’s largest fish. These gentle giants migrate through the waters near Tofo Beach, offering a unique, serene underwater experience. It’s a must-do for marine enthusiasts

Which of these best experiences in Africa are you planning to partake in? Have you been to Africa? If no, girl, you’re missing a lot. Africa has so much to offer. Plus, these experiences are cheaper compared to Europe or Asia. Planning to visit Africa or a spend a day in its numerous Africa safaris, you are right on track.

These Under rated luxury designer bags that are causing a buzz on the internet.

Are you a foreigner looking to visit Nigeria anytime soon? If yes, you are going to experience some cultural shocks that differ from your home country. Here is a detailed list of culture shock Nigeria tourist should know before visit.

Before we dive into culture shock to expect. Check out our detailed blog post on Nigeria travel advisory. Here you get to learn more about what you need, how to get your Nigeria visa and how to settle in quickly. As a foreigner settling down in a new country may be quite lonely. So, I highly recommend you check out InterNations website. Here you get to meet other foreigners like you to help you settle in quickly.

Experiencing culture shock is common when traveling to a new country, and Nigeria is no exception. Not to worry, these cultural shocks are not ones that will throw you totally off-balance. I like to describe the cultural shocks that foreigners face as both fascinating and overwhelming.

Anyway, what better way to learn about these cultural shocks and be well-prepared than hearing them from a Nigerian? It is why I am here for you as that will be the focus of this blog.

Whether you’re coming for business, tourism, or to connect with family, here are some cultural differences and norms that might surprise you and help you better navigate your visit:

Are you planning a solo travel to Nigeria? Book a tour with Getyourguide to make your travel experience memorable and fun.

Nigerian tourist should know these culture shocks

Just like every other country, there are things that are peculiar to each country. Unique culture, traditions and ways of life.

After you get your Nigerian visa and you’re ready to visit. These culture shock will get you started

Nigerians are big on respect

Nigerians are known for their warmth and hospitality, often greeting strangers with enthusiasm. Don’t be surprised if you’re treated like a long-lost relative, especially in rural areas.

Typically, Nigerians love to share stories, ask personal questions about your family, and offer food or gifts. Yes, it might seem a bit intrusive, but they do not mean it from a bad place.

When you come across these overly friendly people, a friendly smile and a warm handshake or a first bump would go a long way. However, I must add that you should be prepared for greetings that may take some time, especially in formal settings. You may also be offered hugs.

African time is a thing here

I would like to say that social events in Nigeria operate on the “Nigerian Time” mentality.  This means that these events do not start at the scheduled time. While business meetings or formal events may strive to start on time, social gatherings can often begin much later than scheduled.

For social events, I will recommend you should add at least 2-3 hours to the stipulated time. Although Nigerians like to stick to time, others are used to been late to events. A recent pyjamas party I attended that was slated for 6pm took off by 10pm. I was quite upset because I felt like I could have been productive with the time wasted.

When this happens to you, I recommend that you exercise patience. It is best to keep in mind that they are not doing this to spite you. Instead, it is a norm.

      Typical Nigeria Owambe Party

Prepare for the traffic especially in major cities

If you are visiting a city like Lagos, keep in mind that you would experience heavy traffic, also known as “Go Slow.” It is something you can never predict or get used to. It is why you should always plan for delays when stepping out in Lagos. Therefore, I advise you should always leave early so you can still make it on time.

Furthermore, moving around in public transportation like buses or motorcycles (locally known as okadas) may seem chaotic and unregulated compared to what you are used to. If you are uncomfortable, I recommend that you opt for ride-hailing services like Bolt, Uber, and In-Drive. They are available in most major cities in Nigeria.

        Lagos traffic during peak period

        Dress Modest

I wouldn’t in any way describe Nigeria as a conservative country. However, Nigerians take pride in their appearance and often dress quite formally, even for casual events. While you don’t need to dress extravagantly, it is respectful to dress modestly.

But if you find yourself in the northern part of Nigeria, conservative clothing is best advised due to religious influences.

          Crowded Markets

You cannot say you visited or experienced Nigeria if you do not experience the market culture. Shopping at local markets can be both exciting and overwhelming as it is always crowded. However, the fun comes in bargaining and haggling prices.

One thing about Nigerian markets is that you would always find whatever you need. However, don’t accept the first price you are offered in local markets. Bargaining is part of the game, but always keep it respectful and friendly. Be prepared for market vendors to call out to you enthusiastically, but a polite “no, thank you” will suffice if you’re not interested.

For Lagos, you can go to markets like Oshodi, Balogun, Mushin, Idumota, Mile 12, Festac among others. I love to explore these markets to shop for thrift. If you’re into thrift shopping, check out these best places to shop for quality thrift clothes or accessories in Lagos.

            Nigerians can be very welcoming

One thing I love about Nigerians is how expressive and enthusiastic we are during conversation. However, this also means that one may stand closer or touch your arm or shoulder while speaking. If you are someone who is not used to people being in your personal space, this may be startling. They do not mean to be rude. Rather, it is a sign of engagement and friendliness.

            Nigerians can be hilarious

I do not mean to over hype Nigerians, but I can say for a fact that Nigerians are one of the funniest people you will ever meet. This is also combined with a playful and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor.

When interacting with people, you would see that they often joke about politics, social issues, or even make fun of one another in a light-hearted manner. At the same time, directness in speech is common, and comments that might be seen as blunt or too personal in other cultures are often made openly.

Don’t take jokes or comments too personally. Having a sense of humor and responding in kind will earn you respect. However, it’s good to be mindful of how you respond until you’re familiar with the nuances.

                Tipping is not compulsory

In many parts of Nigeria, tipping is not always expected but it can be appreciated. So, do not see it as mandatory to always tip.

However, service standards may differ from what you are used to as you may experience slower response times.

                  Most Nigerian dishes are spicy

Nigerian food is known for being spicy, flavorful and unique. Some of our staple dishes include jollof rice, pounded yam, and egusi soup. If you are not used to spicy food, the intensity of the heat may come as a surprise. You can tell your host or the restaurant to prepare your meal with a reduced amount of spice.

It is not out of place in Nigeria to see people eating some meals with their hands, especially swallow and soups. However, when eating with your hands, only use your right hand, as the left hand is considered impolite in many cultural contexts.

                    Nigerians are very religious

Nigeria is deeply religious, with Islam and Christianity being the predominant faiths. Religious practices are often woven into everyday life, and prayer is common in public spaces. During Islamic holidays or Christian festivities, entire regions may observe religious customs, including closures of businesses.

Be mindful of religious customs and prayer times. If you visit during Ramadan or Christmas, expect changes in schedules, increased gatherings, and celebrations. Importantly, avoid discussing sensitive religious topics unless you’re sure it’s welcomed.

                      Common Language is Pidgin

There are several Languages in Nigeria. However, the main language is English Language. So, you don’t have to worry about language barriers if you’re English speaking. Unlike some west African countries who are French speaking like the republic of Benin.

How was I able to cope in the French speaking countries? Google translate came in handy. I have also written about travel apps to help you as a foreigner in any country of visit.

Asides English, Its common to hear Nigerian speak in pidgin English. This language is very popular across the country. Whether you’re in the southwest, North or southeast. However, it more common with the south region of the country like Delta state, Bayelsa or Edo state.

I have been to some states in the south of Nigeria. Click here to learn more about my visit to delta state Nigeria as well as fun things to do on your visit.

Latest Nigerian International passport process: Home delivery pros and cons

I used to think that French fashion is a little exaggerated. However, Paris fashion week 2024 street style shows that the French dress better than others. No offence to other European countries.

I have reviewed Copenhagen fashion week, London fashion week as well as New York fashion. You can check out my best street style looks reviewed. But the French street style looks tops all of them. Now I see why I was hooked by the show Emily in Paris.

All the looks from Paris fashion week are tailored to 2025 fashion trends. Boho dresses were featured on the street style looks. You can say boho dresses are in. Chloe show featured so many fine free boho dresses in nude with a bit of sheer. I love the boho style denim dress in one of the street style looks. It is a mini dress, and she styled it with a pair of knee-high brown boots which I love.

Paris fashion week 2024 street style looks

Let’s do a quick recap of the street style looks so far. My favorite street style looks from London fashion week is a cute sweater midi dress with a white flowy skirt. This is super cute and fun.

Copenhagen fashion week featured so many fun old money looks. My favorite is the crisp white top and bottom with a rosette as jewelry. Love this look. If makes me wants to look like money whenever I step out. You know that lady that drives a white Porshe, has a chauffeur and lives in white house. My Imagination!!

Lastly New York fashion week was one my best show in terms of the street. The gworls did not come to play at all. So many denims look, Bermuda shorts and chunky jewelry. My favorite look is this simple strapless black dress and chunky necklace. Love this looks.

Now let’s address the main reason we are here. Paris fashion week street style looks. You know when they say the French can dress. They gave us fashion lessons from their street style looks. Bring out your notes and let’s learn together.

                      Boho Dresses

Chloe show featured so many boho dresses. That simply means that spring summer 2025 will feature boho style dresses and tops. One of my favorite boho dress from the street style look is this cute denim dress with billowy sleeves. I can wait to wear a similar dress.

Another boho dress is this cute burgundy lace dress. I love the fact that though it sheer lace, she wore it modestly unlike what we saw in the past fashion week. So many outfit with sheer pants and dresses with just bodysuit. I can’t be caught in that look. However, she wore a burgundy mini dress in it that makes love the whole look. However, I would swap the strappy heels with a pair of pumps or boots.

                      Fringe is in

I have a love hate relationship with fringe. Fringe was one of the hottest 2018 fashion trends that was everywhere. You will see fringe on the runway and stores. In dresses, skirts, jackets among others. I still have the same stand, no to fringe.

However, this leather blazer dress had me in a choke hold. Love the stress and the subtle fringe details. This look will be perfect with a pair of thigh high boots. However, from the pictures online, I can’t tell the type of shoes she is wearing. Do you love fringe or will pass on it? Share your thoughts below.

Bring on the suede for cooler months

As the temperature cools, so are we shopping for warm outfits. Do you think you can wear suede for all seasons? Or are you of the school of thought that suede is just for fall or winter.

Although from this look she went all in. Layered a suede skirt on loose fit pants. I will definitely ditch the pants and wear the outfit as a suede suit set. She paired the look with a brown leather bag and a black scarf. This look will be perfect with a pair of sneakers in black or brown. Love this look a lot less the pants.

                      All things leopard

Leopard print is a staple wardrobe essential. However, many shy from it as it more in your face. A minimalist will definitely shy away from it. As a maximalist, I use any opportunity to collect leopard prints. If you are new to styling prints, read my post on how to mix prints and pattern like a pro. This will teach how to wear leopard prints.

The first look is a lady wearing a leopard print trench dress which is cool. However, I would rather wear leopard prints as a neutral. This lady wore an off-shoulder print dress over a white button-down shirt. This is super fun. She paired the looks with a chocolate knee high boot.

Click here to buy similar leopard print dress

                      Monochrome outfit in brown

A no brainer way to dress effortlessly is to wear monochrome looks. And of course, there were so many monochrome looks from Paris fashion week 2024 street style looks.

In this look she styled an all-brown monochrome look. I love how she played with several tones or shade of brown. Many of us shy away of styling monochrome looks that doesn’t match. However, I love to play with several tones of the same color for a cute monochrome moment.

Which of these Paris fashion week 2024 street style looks are your favorite? My favorite is the suede outfit idea and of course, the boho chic denim dress. Perfection. Let me know your thoughts below. Ciao for now.

Paris fashion week 2024 street style shows that the French dress better

One of the hottest fashion trend of 2024 is suede. Whether you’d prefer to wear it as an outfit or accessory, you decide. Here is how to wear suede for all season the Parisian way.

I will not sit here telling you that I love suede. My relationship with suede is off and on. I love it and hate it due as it is a high maintenance fabric. If you love old money aesthetic, you know suede is luxurious. It should be part of your staple wardrobe. However, if you see suede as just a fabric, you decide if you want it or not.

The internet is buzzing about wearing suede as the season gets cooler. Some even argue that suede is meant for autumn or winter season. However, I will say that you can wear suede all year round. For example, for the summer season, wear suede in terms of accessories and Bermuda shorts. I also wrote about several on how to wear Bermuda shorts for summer.

                      Sweater dresses

I have always love sweater dresses. One of my favorite sweater dresses is from chicme. I regret selling it. Now, I have replaced my sweater dress with an updated style. if you have shopped from Chicme for fall fashion, what are you doing.

This sweater dress was styled in a way I would not have thought of. She layered her sweater dress with a linen white skirt. It is perfect blend of grey and white. However, she decided on a pop of color for her bag. I love boho chic jewelry. If you don’t know, boho style jewelry is in for 2024. I also wrote about the hottest Jewelry trends for 2024.

                      Opt for colorful jumpers

Typically, when I think of Jumpers, I think neutrals. Grey, black, white or brown. However, at London fashion week 2024. There were several street styles looks featuring colorful jumpers.

One of my favorites featured a knit print jumper and black tennis style mini skirt. I love how pulled the look together with black tights and ankle boots. Her handbag is giving me vintage Chanel style. But I cannot tell if hers was chanel.

Another look featured this distressed style red jumper and leather pants with a slit. She went for a monochrome red look. However, I will not be caught dead in red that much. If red is your cup of tea, why not? However, I would rather style a cream jumper and a Jean Paul Gaultier leggings dupe that I love so much.

She can also go for a simple brown leather watch or pearl bracelets. This would have made her old money look perfect. There is fashion, and there is old money fashion! In today’s world, we fondly call it the rich aunty style. I can see a sly smile on your face now as you are fully realizing what I’m talking about. Well, here must have 10 old money wardrobe essentials every fashion girl needs ASAP.

If you’re familiar with this style, you will agree that it appears simple, yet highly sophisticated. The old money fashion is one that exudes a quiet kind of luxury. Old Money aesthetic is used interchangeable with Quiet luxury. However, Old money Aesthetic is more like minimalism. If you are minimalist, this up your alley. However, unlike minimalist, old money also features cool tone colors like Pastels as well vibrant colors like red, pink among others.

I tilt to this style most times because it has a way of alleviating how you look, and it is sure to get heads to turn whenever you step into a place. Furthermore, it leaves you looking absolutely fabulous, chic, and sophisticated.

Now, if you would love to feel like old money all year round, here are 10 wardrobe essentials you should own:

How to dress like money: Old money wardrobe essentials

I have always thought that I need a lot of money to dress better. Boy was I wrong. Then I started looking into Quiet luxury vs old money aesthetic. I discovered I can actually dress like money even when there is no money.

Since I knew, I consciously shopped these 10 old money wardrobe essentials to pull of this rich girl vibe whenever I step out. Some of these pieces are great quality options from AliExpress as well as thrift stores.

Do not sleep on thrift stores. I have built my capsule wardrobe by shopping Thrift. I also wrote a comprehensive thrift shopping guide to help you get started.

                      Pearl Jewelry

Have you seen a rich aunty step out without her Jewelry? To nail the old money look, you need to have your Jewelry. Not just any Jewelry, but your pearl Jewelry!

Typically, pearls have long been associated with classic and elegance. Your pearl jewelry could be a simple pair of pearl studs, a strand of pearls, or a delicate bracelet. One thing about pearl jewelry is that they can never go out of style.

Pearl jewelries are a must add to any wardrobe if you want to pull off the old money fashion. These jewelries add a touch of sophistication to any outfit without feeling overdone.

                      Tailored Blazers

I don’t know what comes to your mind when you think about old money. But aside from long gowns, I also envision well-tailored blazers that give off the boss chic vibe.

Nothing says old money quite like a perfectly tailored blazer. Whether paired with jeans, trousers, or skirts, a well-fitted blazer can instantly elevate your outfit. I wrote about several ways to wear blazers for any occasion, you should check out.

When getting these blazers, I would recommend that you stick to neutral colors like navy, beige, black or grey. This way, you can be sure that they will pair perfectly on almost any outfit. For durability, opt for natural fabrics like wool or linen.

                      Cashmere Sweaters

You see cashmere material? I always scream ‘old money’ whenever I see someone wearing a cashmere outfit. It is that subtle evidence that screams luxury. Dare I say, a cashmere sweater is the poster child of luxury.

These sweaters are usually soft, warm, and incredibly chic. The best part? It can be paired with any outfit! Once paired with an outfit, it adds an air of refinement.

When shopping, go for high-quality cashmere in neutral tones. The whole point is to look calm and poise when you wear cashmere sweaters. So, going for camel, cream, or black colors will give you an effortlessly polished look.

                      Silk Scarves

If you’ve been keeping up with the rich aunty fashion trend, then I’m sure you’re not surprised to see this amongst the options. Typically, scarves play a big role in elevating outfits. Then when it comes to silk scarves, you are getting a subtle nod to luxury, and you cannot go wrong with it!

Whether tied around your neck, worn as a headscarf, or draped over a handbag, this accessory instantly adds elegance to your outfit. I would say you should go for any high-quality silk scarf. But they say anything doing is worth doing well. Thus, choose classic prints or solid colors to keep things timeless.

                      Trench Coat

Take your mind back to the last classic movie you watched or think about times you’ve watched people play old money roles in movies. Now that I’ve juggled your memory, I’m sure you’ve remembered that trench coats play an active role in their outfits.

A trench coat is a piece that always exudes elegance whenever it is worn. A beige or camel trench can instantly elevate any outfit, offering a sleek silhouette while keeping you protected from the elements.

When shopping, look for quality materials like cotton gabardine for a long-lasting wardrobe investment.

                      Tailored Trousers

Did you think we would have tailored blazers without tailored trousers? Forget the fast-fashion joggers – tailored trousers are where the old money aesthetic shines.

When you wear well-cut, high-waisted trousers in neutral tones such as navy, charcoal, or beige, you will look polished and put-together. Then, pair these trousers with a crisp blouse or a fitted sweater and you will be the attention of the day.

                      Tailored Wool Coat

One thing about old money fashion is that you have to come correct at all times. It is why your outfits must be well-tailored. When you are not pulling off a trench coat, you can go for a tailored wool coat.

When the weather cools down, a tailored wool coat helps you maintain that old money vibe. I would recommend that you stick to timeless colors like camel, navy, or charcoal and opt for a single-breasted or double-breasted design. Trust me, a well-made wool coat will last for years, keeping you warm while looking polished.

                      Leather Loafers

In case you didn’t know, loafers are the quintessential old money shoe. They’re comfortable, stylish, and effortlessly preppy.

A pair of high-quality leather loafers in black, brown, or burgundy will pair beautifully with everything from trousers to skirts. It also comes as a plus that they age beautifully over time.

                      Structured handbag

I won’t be surprised if you do not seem familiar with the term ‘structured handbag’. The first time I came across it, I was equally confused. However, allow me to tell you that most of the bags you rock are structured bags. Typically, structured bags are bags that have a lot of shaping and seams and can hold their shape over time.

When you want to pull off the old money fashion, you need a handbag that is elegant, yet functional. A structured leather handbag in neutral colors like black, taupe, or cognac is the perfect investment piece.

When shopping, look for minimal hardware and simple designs for a refined and timeless appearance.

Namibia is home to vast deserts, surreal landscapes, and rich wildlife. While safaris here can be pricier, affordable self-drive tours are an excellent way to explore the country on a budget.

I would recommend that you visit places like Sossusvlei Dunes, Etosha National Park, Skeleton Coast, and Fish River Canyon. Importantly, do not go to these places without a camera as you would need to capture the memories.

                      Egypt

There is this exciting energy that comes with talking about Egypt. Or, maybe it’s because I always fantasize about exploring the pyramids. For such an ancient country, Egypt is surprisingly affordable for travelers.

Some of the top attractions in Egypt are Pyramids of Giza, The Sphinx, Luxor Temple, and Nile River Cruises.

                      Botswana

The first time I heard about rock painting was when I was reading up on Botswana, and I could immediately tell that this would be an interesting country to visit. But, is it affordable?

I have found out that the best way to explore Botswana if you are on a budget is through self-guided tours and more affordable accommodations. I like that the affordable accommodation options are still of top quality and standards.

Curious about what to do in Botswana, visit Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park, Kalahari Desert, and Tsodilo Hills (for ancient rock paintings).

                      Kenya

If I ever have to relocate to another country, Kenya would be my pick. It is a budget-friendly destination known for its wildlife and beautiful landscapes. Visitors can experience safaris in the Maasai Mara, hike in the Great Rift Valley, and explore the coastal city of Mombasa.

During my last visit to Mombasa, I stayed at Diani Beach and I almost didn’t want to return home. It gave me the feeling of being home away from home. I would also recommend that you visit Nairobi National Park.

Often called the “Pearl of Africa,” Uganda offers visitors a mix of wildlife, stunning lakes, and lush forests. You can trek to see mountain gorillas or relax along the shores of Lake Victoria, all without breaking the bank.

Some of the top attractions of this country are  Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (for gorilla trekking), Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Victoria, and Rwenzori Mountains.

                      Ethiopia

For some reason, the Ethiopian currency ‘Birr” sounds so nice and this was one of the initial reasons why I wanted to visit the country. Yes, little details stand out to me and attract me to a place.

Ethiopia is rich in history and culture and  a unique travel experience. From the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela to the historic city of Axum, Ethiopia is a budget traveler’s dream with inexpensive accommodations and food.

You should also check out Simien Mountains National Park, Blue Nile Falls, and the Ancient City of Axum.

I can assure you that you would make lots of memories when exploring Morocco.
