Best summer handbags that will sell out fast and of course budget friendly

I like to describe my carryon handbag as a lifesaver when travelling, because it has certain essentials that make me comfortable while on a trip. Some people may say I’m putting too much in my carryon handbag. But I can’t do without these things every fashion girl should pack in a carryon bag or handbag.

Wondering the things I pack? I will talk about them in this article. These are items that are both functional and stylish, allowing me to stay fabulous on the go!

Things every fashion girl should pack in a carryon

Things every fashion girl should pack in a Carryon

Here are 10 things every fashion girl should always pack in a carryon handbag:

Passport and Travel Document

First and foremost, your passport and travel documents are the most important items. Therefore, they classify as items that should be on in your carryon handbag.

You need to keep them organised in a chic passport holder or wallet that also has slots for boarding passes, ID cards, and any other essential documents. This not only keeps you organised but also adds a touch of style to your travel routine.

I always love to get all those cute passport covers that get the mood upbeat. I’m a strong believer that my passport holder can determine the outcome of my trip.

Also check out our travel resources section to help you plan your trip effortlessly.

Miniature Beauty Kit

If you’re a fashion girl, I’m sure you understand the importance of looking fresh and radiant, even after a long flight. Therefore, it is necessary to pack a miniature beauty kit in your carryon handbag.

In this kit, you should pack a miniature beauty kit that includes travel-sized versions of your favourite skincare products. These could be a hydrating face mist, moisturiser, lip balm, and a compact mirror. Of course, never to be caught unfresh! Importantly, you shouldn’t forget to also pack a mini hairbrush or comb so that your hair stays on fleek.

Makeup Essentials

If you’re going to be on a long flight, I would recommend packing some makeup essentials in your carryon handbag. While you don’t need your entire makeup collection, putting bits from it in your carryon can be helpful.

I would recommend including a tinted moisturiser or foundation stick, mascara, versatile eyeshadow palette, dual-ended brow pencil, favourite lipstick or lip gloss, etc. These are some products I would recommend, but you should tweak it as you please. It is important to choose products that are easy to apply and can quickly refresh your look.

Portable Charger

I can’t even imagine travelling without my portable chargers as staying connected is important. If my devices are not always powered up, how would I be in touch with my loved ones?

For this reason, I always ensure to have a portable charger in my carryon handbag. I also ensure to pack other tech accessories like a universal adapter, earbuds or headphone, and charging cables.

One thing about me is that I never fail to maintain my steeze while at it. So, I opt for stylish pouches or cases to keep everything organised.

Sunglasses

What’s a fashion girl without her sunglasses? I can’t imagine how my trip would be without my sunglasses! Not only do they protect my eyes from the sun, but they also add an instant touch of glamour to any outfit.

I’m one fashion girl who would always shop for new sunglasses at every opportunity. So, I ensure that there would always be a pair in my carryon handbag. In fact, I always have more than a pair in my bag at every instance. I have written about the best summer sunglasses for women that is viral this year. You will definitely love my selection. I will link some of my favorite sunglasses below from Chicme.

Scarf or Pashmina

A lightweight scarf or pashmina is a versatile accessory that can serve multiple purposes, and you need to own one as a fashion girl. While on the plane, the scarf or pashmina can keep you warm.

I also love that it can add a pop of colour to any outfit. There is a certain sense of elegance that comes with adding a scarf to your outfit and gives a commanding aura. When shopping for a scarf or pashmina, you should go for a high-quality fabric that feels luxurious and can be easily folded into your bag.

Notebook and Pen

I don’t know about you, but I love to keep myself busy while on a plane. So, you would always see a notebook and pen in my carryon handbag. I could use them for jotting down ideas, doodling, or keeping track of my travel itinerary.

While getting a pen and notebook, go for the stylish ones; don’t get the regular ones. These stylish ones have a way of elevating your mood. Also, choose a compact notebook that fits perfectly into your carryon handbag.

One of my favourite things to do is to create puzzles and use them as conversation starters on the plane. I’ve made meaningful friendships through this.

Snacks and Hydration

Snacks are also items that should be in a carryon handbag. So, I always have healthy snacks and a reusable water bottle to keep my energy up. I’m a fan of nutritious snacks like nuts, dried fruit, or granola bars.

Hand Sanitizer and Wipes

As a fashion girl, you also have to be a clean girl. So, you should have a travel-sized hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes to keep your hands and surfaces clean as maintaining hygiene is more important than ever.

I would generally advise choosing products with a pleasant scent and gentle formula to avoid skin irritation. This helps ensure that you have a comfortable trip.

Comfortable Footwear

While your main luggage might contain several pairs of shoes, having a pair of comfortable flats or slip-on shoes in your carry-on is wise. These can be easily swapped with your heels or more cumbersome footwear, especially during long flights or walks through the airport.

I remember one flight where we landed, and our luggage couldn’t arrive until the next day. Fortunately, I had some comfortable footwear in my carryon luggage and I didn’t panic as much as others did.

Bonus: Books or Kindle

One of my favorite things to while travelling is to read. I am so much afraid of heights, so I don’t enjoy looking out the window while travelling. So, the best way to take mind away is read books.

Currently I am reading a book on teach yourself MBA. It is laughable as I have a master’s in Business Administration. Learning is forever, I guess. Reading a book is a great to keep your mind busy. It is perfect to kill the time while on a long layover.

If you’re not new to the luxury world, you know that handbags are the most coveted pieces. Also, they have higher chances of retaining their retail value over time. So, here are the best tips for scoring designer bags for way less.

Don’t get me wrong though. I love designer pieces whether bags or outfits. My favorite dress from R.G Kane is a vibe always. Also, a cute hoodie from Marc Jacobs is top of my wish list. I am a logo mania and about craftmanship, so yes, I love the hoodie. This will be linked below.

Saving on designer pieces has always been my way to shop them. I don’t like the prices of designer pieces because it way above my tax bracket. And the now with the recent price increases by Chanel, Louis Vuitton among other is quite discouraging. Don’t get me wrong, the price is justified due to the inflation, yet it makes them more unaffordable.

So, I had to figure out ways to get these designer pieces for cheaper. If you’d love to hear this tips, read on.

Tips for scoring Designer bags for way less

Tips for scoring designer bags for way less

Here are my tested and tried tips for scoring designer bags for way cheaper. Like I said, the focus is on designer bags is because of the value they retain. Check out my post on classic designer bags that are great investment pieces in 2024.

Shop sales

Sales is one of the best time to shop for designer bags. You can get designer handbags up to 70% off during the sales. So, if you have a wish list, buy items from this wish list when it goes on sale.

Typically brands that the List, Coach outlet, the outlet offers designer bags for huge sales. This could be during the summer sales, New year eve sales, Winter sales or blow out. One of the best ways to shop sales is to sign up for the newsletter of these websites. You will definitely be notified when these items go on sales or if there is a sale going on.

My first designer bag purchase is a Michael Kors Saffiano leather Jet set bag. It is a pastel pink bag that is super fun and chic. I shopped it from therealreal for about 70% off. That was steal along with my store credit. This brings me to the next point, shop pre-loved.

Pre-loved or second-hand stores.

It is easy to fall into the harms of fraud online. So, I will recommend you shop from Verified second hand designer brand stores. I have written a post on the best second hand designer online stores to shop.

There are so many brands online that claim to sell designer brands but sell counterfeits to shoppers. So, if you’re new to shopping designer brands, they may take advantage of you. I’d rather shop dupes vs counterfeits. Then I know I am shopping the lookalike and not a fake.

Shop from brands that take their time to authenticate this products before selling to you. Brands like therealreal, Fashionpile, Rebag, Farfetched pre-loved, Coach Pre-loved, Maison De Fashion or vintage among others. With the craze for vintage pieces this year, this is best time to shop pre-loved pieces.

Sadly, the prices have gone for pre-loved or vintage pieces. If you don’t know, vintage style is one of the 2024 fashion trends every IT girl is in on. Yet, if you’re patient, you will still get a good deal on your favorite vintage piece on the market.

Tips for scoring designer bags for way less in 2024

Avoid shopping Classic colors

Another of the best tips for scoring designer bags for way less is for going for less classic colors. Classic colors are neutral colors like black, white, grey and brown. Many will definitely gravitate to these neutral colors for bags. And you know the law of demand and its implication on prices.

Invariably vibrant colors are less sought and cheaper too. So, go for other chic colors asides the classic colors. Also check out my post on handbag colors that never go out of style for inspiration.

Authenticity is Key

It is easy to fall for the trap of counterfeits. This is because many designer brands especially the “IT” bags have counterfeits. And many of these counterfeits offer it at a low price range. So, you may assume it is a steal and later find out its fake.

How can tell authenticity of these bags? I highly recommend you go to an expert. Also, buy from brands that are verified and tried. When shopping for second hand designer bags, go to brands that does the authentication already as listed above.

If you are unable to do this but found a site like e-bay or Etsy that sells designers but doesn’t authenticate, you need this tips.

  1. Check for the serial numbers: That is what I look out for when shopping designer bags from a random site. DO you research online on where to see this serial numbers. If it is an instagram brand as for pictures or videos that capture this serial number
  2. Ask for extra pictures
  3. Pay attention to details: You may get Prado bag in place of Prada bag. Michael Kors or Michael Michael kors is the same brand but check the spelling.
  4. Be patient
  5. Don’t be deceived by the price: These brands that sell fakes wants you to buy from them using any gimmick. You many will say if the price is close to the retail price, then it is real. Darling, never the case. I saw a tory burch bag online for a price that seems reasonable for second hand but girl, it is was a counterfeit.

Comment below other tips for scoring designer bags for way less you have applied that worked. Which of these tips will you be applying to get your first budget friendly designer bags. Ciao.

I always thought buying designer pieces is way above my tax bracket. Not until I shopped my designer bag from therealreal. So I can boldly say that these under 500 dollars designer handbags that are beginner friendly.

Although most people will say you should start your designer shopping with scarves. But I would say shop bags instead. This is because of the value designer bags retain especially if you can afford high end brands like Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Versace and the likes.

On the other hand, Designer ready to wear for me is iffy. Your can choose to pay $1000 for sweat pants or dress but not me. Many of these ready to wear pieces hardly hold their value when compared to handbags, so bag it is.

One of the cheapest ways to get designer handbags is from the preloved market. I wrote an extensive post on best places to buy second hand designer bags in pristine condition.

Also, if you choose to shop from random websites that you presume host designer pieces. Then you need to read my post on counterfeits vs dupes. Here I shared some of my tips to authenticate designer bags.

I often come across people who complain about how designer bags are so expensive. Without a doubt and without trying to downplay these experiences, I do agree that designer bags can be pricey. However, there are also designer bags you can get for less than $500!

Yes, you read that correctly! In this article, I’ll be sharing some of the best designer bags under $500. If you are looking to build or start a designer bag collection, this list should be your guide.

Under $500 designer bags to start your luxury journey

Below are my recommendations of designer handbags that are beginner friendly and yes under $500.

Marc Jacobs

Although I’m not so much of a bag freak, this is one bag I do not mind carrying around because of its compact nature. It is commonly known as the snapshot small camera bag and comes in bold colors. What always stands out about this bag is the Marc Jacobs signature double-J logo.

My favorite aspect/feature about this bag would be its removable strap. Typically, I can throw this bag on my body and head out. However, if I want to attend some classy functions, I can take out the strap and still use the bad. This versatility feature of the bag leaves it outstanding and perfect for everyday wear.

Kate Spade

Compared to the Marc Jacob bag, I wouldn’t call this bag compact. However, it often comes as a medium satchel, making it easy to carry around. What I love about this bag is that it comes as a sophisticated and structured satchel. This makes it perfect for almost any occasion, and it would be hard to tell that the bag is under $500.

I also love that the bag comes with a spacious interior and elegant design. As women, we are prone to always overpack. When this happens, there is not need to worry as your Kate Spade would always have room for your things. This bag is ideal for both work and casual outings.

Palm Angels

I tend to love bags that leave a lasting first impression, and that is exactly what a Palm Angels bag does. Have you seen the design of this bag? The first time I saw this bag, I wore a big smile instantly as it comes with a bear design, which isn’t common for designer bags. I love that although it is a designer bag, it still also some form of relatability.

This bag serves as a statement piece for those who love streetwear aesthetics. It is a great addition to any wardrobe or handbag collection as it tends to show off your individual style.

Coach

Have you heard about the Coach Willow Tote? Although I do not always like to admit, this bag is one of my favorite designer bags because of its simplicity. I tend to love bags that comes with a classic design, and the design of this tote hits the mark. When you look at this bag, you will agree that it has a timeless look. Due to its design, it is perfect for women of any age range.

It is also a spacious bag and features multiple compartments. Therefore, you can use this bag for almost any occasion, including work, and a day on the beach. This tote is a practical and stylish addition to any wardrobe.

Favorite Under 500 dollars designer bags

Michael Kors

The Michael Kors Jet Set Saffiano Leather Tote is another bag that falls under the classification of best designer bags below $500. You might say that I love tote bags. But, is there anything wrong with them? These bags tend to be classy and bring a certain flair whenever you use them.

One of the best features of the Saffiano tote bag is its leather. This makes it durable and give you the assurance that you can use it daily without anything happening to this bag. There is often the misconception that designer bags should not be used everyday as they are fragile can get damaged.

However, this bag tends to differ as its leather feature makes it long-lasting, giving you value for your money. This tote is perfect for those who need a spacious and fashionable bag.

Best under 500 dollars designer handbags

Longchamp

Have you ever used a foldable bag before? One thing about me is that I am quite picky when it comes to bags. So, most of my bags would often have a unique feature about them. The first time I saw my friend with a Longchamp le pliage bag, I knew I had to cope one!

Typically, this bag is lightweight, making it easy to carry around. In addition, it also comes in a foldable design, making it perfect for travel and everyday use. Sometimes when the weather gets hot, this bag serves as fan for me.The Longchamp le pliage bag offers both style and convenience to its owner.

Tory Burch

If you are looking to get a Tory Burch bag for under $500, you should go for the Ella Tote bag. I wouldn’t say that this bag is overly fancy. However, it still comes with the iconic Tory Burch logo. This way, no one would doubt if it is actually a designer bag.

I love that this bag is spacious, making is easy for anyone to carry all essentials at once. With this bag, you wouldn’t have need to carry any other extra bag. It is one of those bags that mothers can use, and young women would also fancy.

Staud

Some people are often in shock when I tell them that they can get a trendy designer bag for under $500. This is because they have not come across the Staud Mini Shirley bag before!

Although the bag is not so big or spacious, it comes in a trendy and clear design, and you would often get it in different colors. This bag adds a contemporary twist to any outfit you wear. I would like to add that I am yet to see an outfit that this bag doesn’t match with perfectly. It is a fashionable choice for those who love to stand out!

Cult Gaia

I would say it was love at first sight when I first saw the Cult Gaia Mini Ark Bag. As someone who isn’t so crazy about bags, this bag found a way to leave an impression in my heart! It is a distinctive bamboo bag that comes in a semi-circular shape. Now, I wouldn’t say that this is the bag to use if you have a lot to carry out. But if you are looking to make a fashion statement, this is the bag for you.

It is known for its artistic and architectural style! If you appreciate unique and eye-catching designs, you should get this bag immediately.

Brandon Blackwood

Some bags come with a deeper meaning and purpose, which is the case of the Brandon Blackwood ESR Tote. It is a chic and minimalist tote that supports social justice initiative. So, when you buy this bag, you are using a bag that comes with a meaningful message. With this tote, you are making a statement with style and purpose!

Which of these under 500 dollars designer handbags are looking to buy? Which of them are your favorite or on your wishlist. Mac Jacob’s the tote handbag is still top of my list on these under 500 dollars designer handbags. Ciao for now.

When talking about parks in Lagos, JJT park is sure to come up in any conversation, especially as it is free to access. So it made sense to talk about best places to visit close to JJT park Lagos.

It is one of the most popular parks in Lagos, Nigeria, located in the heart of Ikeja. While this park is free to enter, they do not let you go in with anything breakable.

Asides JJT park, there are other affordable options within and around. Whether you’re a local looking for new places to explore or a visitor wanting to experience the essence of Lagos without breaking the bank, I’ll be sharing some budget-friendly places near JJT park for you to explore.

Best places to visit close to JJT park Lagos

I have visited JJT more times than I count. This is my happy places plus it totally free to access. I even had a fun picnic at this park with my siblings. Click here to watch the vlog.

IKEJA CITY MALL

Popularly known as ICM, there is almost nothing you cannot find at this mall. If you are someone who loves to absorb the essence of scenery, I’ll say that this mall is a trekkable distance from JJT park. However, you can take a cab there if you do not want to break a sweat.

This mall is also one of the largest malls in Lagos and is perfect for a budget-friendly outing. I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of ICM, mainly because of the crowd. Even on weekdays, this place is always filled up. However, I am not surprised as it is affordable.

It has numerous retail stores, a food court, and a cinema. It is an ideal place for shopping and leisure.

MARYLAND MALL

Well, this mall isn’t a trekkable distance from JJT park. However, it also isn’t so far away. If you would rather a mall with fewer people, this is the place to visit.

Personally, I love the architectural structure of Maryland Mall as it gives off the vibe of a modern shopping destination. This mall offers a variety of shops, eateries, and entertainment options. It is an excellent spot for a casual day out, dining, or catching a movie. Even if you just want to feed your eyes and window shop, this mall is an excellent option.

Kalakuta Museum

Many people do not know this, but this museum holds so much history and knowledge about the life of legendary Fela Kuti. It is safe to say that this is a museum to uphold his legacy. Furthermore, Fela’s tomb is next to the house, and the museum is managed by his son.

It isn’t free to visit this place. However, the entrance fee is affordable. Kalakuta museum offers insight into Fela’s life, music, and activism.

Ndubuisi Kanu Park

Just a few distance from JJT park is the Ndubuisi Kanu park, named after a former governor of Lagos state. This park serves as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although it is a public park, I love that it is always kept clean, all thanks to the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency.

The ambiance of this place is usually calm and peaceful. It is typically free to enter into this park if there is no event happening. The park has a lawn tennis court and basketball court as well. There are also snacks stands within the park for you to have something to much on. It is also a perfect location for picnics.

Opebi Park

If you’re looking for another relaxing spot close to JJT park, you should try visiting Opebi park. It is also free to get into this park. Back then, my friends and I would often visit this place with books that we hoped to finish reading.

It is a great place to unwind and build relationships with people. It is also a great spot to simply enjoy the outdoors.

Alade Market

I would often pass the signage to this market but I had never visited until people brought my attention to it. Yes, this market is the definition of affordable.

Visiting this place gives you the opportunity of immersing yourself into the local market culture of the region. It is a fantastic place to shop for affordable clothing, accessories, and local produce. You are sure to leave this place with a bag full of items when you visit.

Lagos Country Club

Yes, I know you might be giving me the side eye as country clubs would typically require a membership fee, and the same applies at Lagos country club. However, you can still get affordable day passes even as a non-member. If you are interested in sports and leisure, this is the right place to unwind.

The Lagos country club has facilities like tennis courts, swimming pools, etc. It is also a great place for networking.

The New Afrika Shrine

Is there anyone in Lagos who has not visited the new Afrika shrine? I always find it hard to believe when people say they have not been to this place due to its popularity. Even if you have not visited, I’m sure you must have heard about it.

This place is known for its live music and vibrant atmosphere. Entry is typically free or affordable when there are events there. At the New Afrika Shrine, you get to enjoy live performances and soak in the Afrobeat vibe. It is a great hangout spot.

Ikeja Golf Club

Just like the Lagos Country Club, you can either decide to get a membership pass or affordable day passes as a non-member. Golf is a new hobby I picked up recently, and I would always want to create time to spend on a golf course.

I can assure you that it is a very interesting sport that comes with an air of sophistication. Spending time at Ikeja Golf Club tends to be very relaxing.

Bamboo Lounge

If you’re looking for a place with great ambiance and affordable meals that isn’t far from JJT park, this is the place to go. I remember stumbling upon their page on Instagram and saying that they have a beautiful space. Even when I visited this lounge in person, it wasn’t any different.

I also love the sense of coziness I get when I visit this place. It is a great spot to relax and enjoy cuisines without having to break the bank.

Go Snorkeling

One thing about Africa is that the continent has many water bodies that are perfect for snorkeling. I would say that there is almost no country in Africa where you cannot go snorkeling.

I always recommend snorkeling during the summer as it comes with a certain sense of calm and peace. It is an activity to do and marvel at the wonders of the world. If I’m to recommend, I would say Lake Malawi is a perfect destination for snorkeling. Snorkeling here allows you to see some of the most colorful cichlids in the world.

Best things to do in Africa on a budget

Go Hiking

Similar to snorkeling, hiking is an activity that can be done in almost any African country you visit. I always look forward to hiking because it lets me explore various parts of the country that I might have never encountered if I didn’t opt for a hike.

Simien Mountains in Ethiopia is a perfect destination for hiking in Africa. As you trek through the mountains, you get to see spectacular landscapes and encounter wildlife such as gelada baboons, Ethiopian wolves, and Walia ibex. Yes, these are animals you would only see in Ethiopia.

Attend Festivals

You are missing out if you have never attended an African festival! Well, you can make up for it by planning to attend one this summer!

From the energy of the people to the vibrant colors, unique traditions and music, and more, there is a lot to enjoy during any African festival. In fact, you should witness the Gerewol festival in Chad. It is a rare cultural celebration by the nomadic Wodaabe tribe. During this festival, men adorn themselves in elaborate costumes and makeup to compete for the affection of women.

Another fun festival you need experience is the Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu, Ogun state, Nigeria. People travel from far and wide to enjoy this festival. You get experience the culture as well as the fashion. I have never more colourful outfits like that worn during this festival.

Sounds weird and interesting? Plan to experience it this summer!

Go Kayaking

I always say that one of the best ways to bond with the locals in any region is by going kayaking. Of course, you didn’t think I would encourage stepping into strange waters without the locals by your side.

It is always fun to kayak with the locals as you get to hear fun stories and admire stunning scenery while at it. One kayaking experience that would always stand out to me is paddling through the mighty Zambezi River just below the Victoria Falls. It was a thrilling adventure!

Underrated summer travel ideas in Africa

Explore Ancient Ruins

I know that Egypt is one of the first places that would come to mind when anyone suggests exploring ancient ruins during the summer. After all, Egypt is known for its pyramids and Egyptian mummies.

However, let’s switch things up a bit this summer by exploring the ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe. This place was a major trading city from the 11th to the 15th centuries and today stands as a UNESCO World Heritage site. I can only imagine the fascinating stories I would hear while exploring this place.

Another fun ancient place to visit is located at Sungbo Eredo. This place is rumored to the place where queen Sheba traveled to vist King Solomon back in the day. It was fun hiking experience to do in Nigeria.

Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride

Although I haven’t gathered the courage to go on one yet, taking a hot air balloon ride sits on my bucket list. Many people recommend doing this activity in Magaliesburg, South Africa.

While curating this list, I did my research and I was blown away by the beautiful and serene landscapes in this area. It is perfect for watching the sunrise.

It’s common to hear about walking lions, but I doubt you’ve heard of or indulged in trekking Chimpanzees. I was giddy with excitement when I learned about this activity and its possibility in Africa. Yes, you can go Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest, Rwanda.

Here, you get to track Chimpanzees as they swing through one of Africa’s oldest forests. Nyungwe also offers a chance to see a variety of other primates and rich birdlife.

Typically, people tend to stick to towns when in new places, including Africa. However, that is not a great way to enjoy your holiday.
