Typically, I would tell people that everywhere can be a tourist attraction when you’re visiting Lagos. After all, if you take out the traffic, what is there not to love about this place? But for those who would be visiting for the first time, here are some specific places you must ensure to visit during your trip.

If you’re talking about markets in Lagos, Balogun market stands at the top of the list. People often say that there is almost nothing you cannot find at this market, and I believe them. This bustling market offers everything from textiles, jewelry, and clothes to food and souvenirs. Lagos has some of the best thrift market if you love clothes and fashion. If you find yourself at Balogun market, be ready to haggle and navigate through busy streets, as it’s one of the largest markets in West Africa. Lekki Conservation Center (LCC)
My friends and I have an inner joke as they claim I am not a real Lagosian. This is because it took me a while to visit LCC. Whenever anyone comes into Lagos, LCC is one of the first recommended places for them to visit.
At LCC, you can go on the famous canopy walkway which is the longest in Africa. There are also many other activities to do at this place. I would recommend that you take along a camera and look out for monkeys, birds, and crocodiles as you explore this park.

If you’re a lover of art, this is the place to visit. Nike Art Gallery showcases the works of hundreds of local artists. From contemporary paintings to traditional sculptures and textiles, the gallery is a treasure trove of Nigerian craftsmanship. If you’re like me who likes to know about a place before I visit, you can research the owner – Nike Davies-Okundaye.
If you’re lucky, you might meet Aunty Nike while visiting the gallery. She is a lovely woman with a wealth of art knowledge. Nike started her gallery in Oshogbo. This Nike art center Oshogbo is still there. It is a great place to learn tye dye among others.

Have you heard of Fela Anikulapo Kuti? He is fondly known as the father of afrobeat’s, and this place is dedicated to him. If you’re looking for a place to have a chill and relaxing evening, this is the place to visit. The venue hosts live music performances, with Fela’s son, Femi Kuti, often leading the charge.
The Shrine, located in Ikeja, is a key location for Lagos nightlife and is a great spot to enjoy live. Afrobeat music while mingling with locals.
Tarkwa Bay Beach
One thing about Lagos is that it isn’t lacking when it comes to beaches. If I have to start talking about beaches, I will dedicate an entire other blog to it. However, amongst the numerous beaches, Tarkwa Bay Beach stands out and is one of the most popular.
This serene beach, accessible only by boat, offers a peaceful atmosphere ideal for sunbathing, swimming, or surfing. There are also small vendors selling local delicacies, making it a great spot for relaxation. You shouldn’t leave Lagos without a Tarkwa Bay experience.

If you would love to know more about Nigeria and Lagos, you should check out a museum. And the National Museum Onikan, Lagos, is one of the best to visit.

A visit to the museum offers a great way to understand Nigeria’s diverse heritage. I would recommend that you shouldn’t be in a hurry while visiting this place as you need to immerse yourself in the experience to learn all that it has to offer. Transportation: Getting around Lagos can be challenging due to traffic congestion. If you would love to use a private ride, you should use ride-hailing apps like Uber and Bolt. They offer a safer and more reliable mode of transportation. Typically, a regular Lagosian gets around with public buses (Danfo). These bright yellow buses are the city’s most common public transport.
However, they can be crowded and confusing for first-time visitors.
Currency: The Nigerian currency is the Naira (₦). It’s advisable to have some local currency on hand for small purchases, as not all places accept card payments. ATMs are widely available in Lagos, but it’s wise to inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid issues with card usage. Always exchange currency at official exchange bureaus for the best rates.

Local Etiquette: Nigerians are big on greetings which is why you should also be polite. For example, always say “Good morning” or “Good afternoon” when meeting someone for the first time. When meeting someone for the first time, a firm handshake and a smile is a common greeting.
English is also the official language in Nigeria, so communication should not be a problem. However, learning a few basic phrases in Yoruba (widely spoken in Lagos) can be appreciated.

Anyways, with the new re-edition released this year, this bag is now one of the most sought-after bags. Also, the re-edition version now features very cute exotics. However, you will have to pay a premium for it.
Other designer brands like Coach and Marc Jacob’s have something similar for a lower price of course. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Marc Jacob version. It is super cute and gives the same vibe.

Like I said, many of us do not know the power of accessorizing. My favorite jewelry to wear is anything gold. Gold jewelry is super chic and fun. This is perfect for dark skin due to our yellow under tone.
Yet, any skin type can wear gold and look chic. Gold is likened with wealth. Even my daughter’s name is Gold as it connotes wealth. That doesn’t mean that silver jewelry is bad. No, but gold jewelry makes you look rich.
I am still on the hunt to shop for pure gold jewelry. What puts me off now is the fact that I cannot identify real gold jewelry. I don’t mean no tarnish but pure gold jewelry. Any tip will be highly appreciated.
Accessorize your looks with jewelry, gold or silver. Style your outfit with necklaces (layered or not), bracelets, anklets etc. You can also check out my post on the hottest jewelry trends for 2024. My favorite is a chunky bracelet. I have my eyes on some cute bracelets that are super cute. Gold of course.
Don’t forget to wear sunglasses
My least favorite accessory is sunglass. If it were up to me sunglasses would not be in this world. Yet, I love it on someone else. I rarely wear my reading glasses as I find them uncomfortable.
Anyway, sunglasses are super chic and fun. You look like money when you finish your look with the perfect sunglasses. I highly recommend you shop for black sunglasses. Preferably a large frame sunglass. It is chic.

Silk is used simultaneously with wealth and riches. Soft yet chic and beautiful. I love a cute silk blazer. Since I saw it in an interview, I can’t wait to have mine.
A silk scarf or silk skirt is super chic. I also have my eye on a silk or satin skirt but don’t like the color I found. Silk is warm on the skin and cool. You will look like you own the world even if your bank balance says otherwise.
