Many us want to blog but find it super hard to balance it with our regular jobs. This was my situation when I started blogging 4 years ago. Here is how to balance blogging while working a full time job.

Blogging is a full time business. So, you if want to get the best from blogging and earn from it, you need to be committed to it. How do I balance blogging with a day job? The answer is in your why. Why do you want to start a blog?

If the aim is to create a side income for yourself. Then blogging is a great option of side hustle to engage in. However, you need to put in the work to get value from blogging. Also, blogging is not a GET RICH QUICK scheme, so you need to find time from your day job to blog.

Here are my tips on how to balance blogging while working from a full time job.

I also find time to create content on my blog. Here are my best tips on how to balance blogging while working a full time. Most times, I hardly have time to myself during my weekend. This is because I have to commit my time to catch with my blog.

Below are my best blogging tips to help you balance blogging while working from home. Some of these tips will come in handy if you work from home to boost productivity.

Time Management

The most difficult thing to manage is time. It seems like the 24 hours in a day is too small to achieve my goals. e.g. putting up a post , studying and working. Sometimes i wish we have 25 hours in a day but trust me if time is well managed, it is more than enough.

A simple time management tip is to have a to do list in which work is at the top of your scale of preference. Your regular job pays the bills so it should get more attention. Blogging or studying can be done intermittently also when your’re at work. Especially during times that work is very slow or not so busy. This trick is what i use to joggle blogging/studying with work so as to make the most the not-so-busy days of the week.

Enjoy the blogging process

Creating content, drafting a blog post, and promotion of blog content is quite an interesting process. For me blogging is enjoyable and the process of creating content is fun. There are also times when you don’t feel blogging or may be going through some form of writers block, its okay to take time off, reset and restart. Make blogging fun and enjoy it to the fullest.

In other to make it quite easier for your blog life, use a simple blog planner. There are a lot of blog planner available at cheaper rate. For me a simple carry on note pad does it making it easy to jot points on the go. Incorporate scheduling for your blog post to social media sites.

This makes it easier to post to a larger audience at right time. One simple app i use for that is Crowd fire. It is easy to use, free for use app. You can also use hoot suites for scheduling your post. It takes of the time and work involved in sharing your post manually on your social media site. Create a schedule for blogging

A blogging schedule will come in handy if you want to balance blogging with your day job. If you don’t want your work life balance to be in jeopardy, create a schedule for blogging.

I only have my weekends for blogging. So, I naturally rest in the early hours of Saturday and blog in the evenings or the next day. This is to avoid burn out from my day job.

Create work schedule for writing content, take pictures for your content and promoting your content. You need to create time for all this things

Outsource if possible

This year, I decided to get an employee to support my blogging. This employee is to create long form articles four times a month. I can say the pay is great.

So, if you can, set asides funds for employees or writers. You can source for writers from places like Fiverr, upwork, or social media. If the pay is great, you will find the best fit for your blog.

Schedule your blog post

The main aim of the content of your blog is to share it with possible readers. However, there is a hardly time to write and share this contents on social media.

The below tools have come in handy for me, Hootsuite especially for twitter shares, publer (free to use) scheduler, Triberr ( Also free) and paid crowd fire. The plus side, you can re-share old blog post using any of the above to get the word out after publishing.

Take time out

The last time is to take time off work. Yes, I said it. Your day job offers you time off because it is needed. So, you need to take time off blogging frequently.

This will help you reset and refresh. Also, this will give you ample time to research new topics in your niche, check out what your competitors are doing also boost your overall well being.

How to earn money from your blog?

The best way to earn money on your blog is to go self hosted or you paid blogging websites. Most brands avoid working with blogs that ends with “blogspot.com” or “wordpress.com”. However, we all know that owning and running a website is not cheap.

I use a very brand for my website, Namecheap. I have been using this brand for a long time. There are times I ruined my website because your girl is not tech savvy, they came through for me. All I have to do is to reach them via the customer chat option. Their customer service is exceptional, so I highly recommend them.

If you want to start off your blog strong, sign up with Namecheap. You can add the an SSL certificate too to rank and make your site secured. This you can purchase also on namecheap.

You can also join Awin to promote Categories in electronics like HP, home improvement or interior decorations and other lifestyle content.

Other ways to earn while blogging is to join influencer marketing agencies like Intellifluence. This brand offer paid guest post or sponsored post that are within the range of $50-$100 payment. You can also sign up for pay per click adverts on your blog. I highly recommend joining AdSense. This is what I use. However, if you have more traffic i.e. 50,000 session per month, just sign up for media vine. The earnings here is way higher than AdSense.

The best part of every fashion event for all fashion seasons is the runway pieces. (I am practically useless as soon as the runway starts). I am always on the lookout for my favorite Lagos Fashion week designers. Some of them are oldies but goodies while others are new to the fashion scene.

It is the biggest fashion show in West Africa in collaboration with Heineken. The runway was literally on fire with a collection that draws inspiration from the Western world as well as purely Afrocentric collections.

Favorite Lagos fashion week designers and celebrities

This year’s event is my first time seeing the runway pieces from Lagos fashion and design week up close. My blog was given a press pass to cover the runway for the 3-day event. There were so many celebrities in the front row.

Celebrities like Somkele, Rita Dominic, Akin Faminu, Denola Grey the host of this year’s runway & Sonia Irabo among others. Sonia labor was the first designer to show her “Dew Collection” in collaboration with other designs in a fight against mental health diseases.

The collections feature bright colorful summer prints that speak color to life itself. Denola Grey, a fashion blogger rocked stylish looks with tinted grey according to his brand name.

Heineken Lagos Fashion week 2018 Favorite Designers

The runway pieces by designers were breathtaking &well crafted in sartorial collections. There are about 50 designers for the 3-day runway show namely Orange culture, NACK, Maiatafo, Ugo Monye, Fayrouz green access e.t.c to mention a few.

My personal feedback for the team of Lagos fashion and design week runway show is that the better part of the show should start early. (The harassment from “Agbero” at night is not funny, well it’s a story for another day).

NACK & UGO MONYE

My two favorite Lagos fashion week designers of 2018 to know are NACK & Ugo Monye. All the designs are amazing Comprising contemporary as well as Afrocentric pieces. Ugo Monye stole the audience’s attention through captivating Igbo performances as well as amazing pieces.

His collections are well-crafted sartorial designs for the modern Nigerian man. A stern lover of Afro-centric designs will be lost in his collections.

NACK’s creativity is something worth mentioning, especially his ability to play with his collections. Artsy, sporty and creative are the words that come to mind with NACK runway pieces. I particularly like his infusion of athleisure trends into his runway collection. For me, NACK totally killed it on the runway.

The pieces from the runway at Lagos Fashion week 2018 were made for every type of Individual. For a chic, feminine silhouette with a royal look, the Clan collection is the go-to design. The designers were all amazing and all their collections were stylish. This shows that designers are abreast with trends in fashion as shown in their collections.

When is Lagos Fashion week 2022?

I am always anxious to know new Lagos fashion week designers. Also, I love to see what my favorite designers are up to each year. So, you can be sure I will be attending this year’s fashion week.

Lagos fashion week is free to access. Just the popular NYFW, Lagos fashion week is that done to promote the Nigerian fashion industry.

When did they commence Lagos fashion week? Lagos fashion week was kickstarted in 2011. It is still blossoming 11 years after. It has put our Nigerian fashion designers at the forefront. Also, some of our Nigerian fashion bloggers were published in Vogue too.

In every fashion week, you may be tempted to go extra with your looks. However, if you’re not a content creator, I would not advise that.

Lagos fashion is always fun to attend. There are sometimes intermittent breaks to allow designers time to prepare between shows.

So, you may be asked to leave the hall while they prepare. The key for me is to be as comfortable as possible. Go for a casual yet stylish look. I would recommend choosing comfort in your style.

As I continue to explore Lagos and all its recreational facilities, there is so much to discover. There are so many amazing recreational parks which some are free to access like JJTpark in my previous post.  The blogger’s hang out by TBA took place at Jhalobia parks and garden.

Unlike other parts of the world, recreational parks are now widely known as cool vacation spots. With recreational parks, you don’t really need to have fat bank balances. Also, the family size doesn’t matter either to enjoy a good time off from your usual routine.

Other lovely parks on my bucket list include; Muri Okunola park, Freedom park, & Ndubuisi Kanu park. Jhalobia Parks and garden is a beautiful park with lush landscape, green scenery, lovely arch as well as pines. It is located at airport road, Ikeja, Lagos state. It is a short distance from Hajj camp (NACO Bus stop) and Ajao estate.

Jhalobia parks and gardens is perfect for fun recreational activities,  parties like weddings, picnic with friends and video filming.

Where is Jhalobia Park located and the gate fee?

Jhalobia park is located close to Hajj campground bus stop off airport road Lagos. It is a walking distance of this bus stop.

The gate fee per person is 2000naira. Jhalobia park is one of the private parks in Lagos to visit. Unlike JJT park, you need to prebook your access and there is a gate fee.

Jhalobia park’s opening hours run from 9 am to 6 pm from Monday to Saturday. While on Sunday, the park opens by 12pm. There are so many fun things to do at this park.

There are a lot of fun activities as well as other lovely things which you can do at this breathtaking private park. Recreational/things you can do include;

  • Family Picnic: What comes to mind first as you walk into the park is a “picnic”. They have lush well-groomed green beds that can be converted for a merry time together with friends, boo, family, coworkers, or business partners. The garden has some lovely secluded mini huts, amusement facilities for kids, and an amazing landscape.
  • Weddings/Parties: There is a large tent opposite a row of mini arch suitable for a wedding aisle. The tent can host as many guests for your dream wedding. if you want a destination wedding without the troubles of traveling to other countries or draining your bank account, Jhalobia park is for you.
  • Hangout or team bonding activities
  • Pre-wedding photoshoot: The ambiance is a great photo backdrop
  • Content creation: Creators can visit this park for photoshoots or videos for their platforms
  • Couple’s hangout: Jhalobia park is a unique secluded park. Couples looking to spend time together could visit this park. You can have a picnic together or see a movie on Netflix as you pass time at this park.

Brands that supported the Network and Chill.

Tarkwa bay beach is one of my favorite Lagos beaches to visit. Actually, it is my very first beach experience ever. Like we all know there are so many private beaches in Lagos state to explore.

Tarkwa bay beach is one of the best beaches in Lagos you need to know. Although, it is said to be an artificial beach, yet it looks so natural. I love this beach because the water is so neat. It is so organized but cheaper to access compared to Landmark beach Lagos.

So, here is all you need to know before you visit. The beach is my happy place and escapes from life’s hustle. So, If you love beaches, add this beach to your bucket list must-see place in Lagos.

Tarkwa bay beach: How do you get there from CMS?

Where is Tarkwa bay located? Tarkwa Bay is located close to CMS bus stop. You can only get there by boat. At CMS bus stop, take a ferry for 500 naira per person. Also, you take a ferry from Marina or Victoria island to Tarkwa bay beach.

How much does it cost to get into Tarkwa bay beach? The gate fee for Tarkwa bay beach is 300 naira. However, it was free on my first visit. The publicity of this place may cause the now gate fee. Actually, I love the fact that there is always an improvement since we started paying the fees to access this beach. So, I would not mind paying more for entry. (lol).

Unlike Laguna beach Lagos, you need to pay to use their beach chairs or tents. You can click here to read about Laguna beach Lagos. The fee is about 10000naira. However, you can negotiate to pay less. My sibling and I were able to get a tent to ourselves for as low as 5000naira.

What should I wear to Tarkwa Bay Beach?

There are so many options of outfits you can wear to the beach. You can wear a summer floral dress to the beach. Also, you can layer this dress on your bikini bra and shorts. (For those who want to swim or get wet at the beach). You can wear beach pants with a bandeau top to the beach.

You can shop for beachwear at this beach. Tarkwa Bay is close to the residents in this area. So, some of these residents sell beach wears. You can shop for bikini sets, beach hats, beach coverups, etc. Plus you can get coconut drinks too. ( This I look forward to always).

Can I bring my food to Tarkwa bay?

Unlike most beaches like Landmark beach, you are free to bring in your own food. Also, you can get food and drinks at Tarkwa bay beach. The food and drinks may be a little overpriced though. Like a soft drink may go for about 200naira compared to the usual 100naira or 150 naira.

You can also shop for souvenirs for yourself and your family. I love the raffia products that are being sold at this beach. On my last visit, I bought a raffia bag that I still use today. Another place in Lagos you can get raffia bags and homewares in wholesale or retail prices is the Lekki arts and craft market. This place I love because of its unique crafty and fashionable items. Things to do at this beach

Tarkwa Bay is a fun place to be in. Each time I visit, I have maximum fun. Unlike the cramped spaces of Oniru beach, this beach is well organized. You can enjoy a fun time at the beach without needing a bench or chair. I actually prefer to sit on the rocks on the far end of the beach.

I also love the waves and the clear waters. I love to engage in Tarkwa bay is a stroll on the beach banks with water splashing on my feet. It is so refreshing. Sometimes, I wish I can swim too. You can swim in the water or surf on the beach. Most foreigners that visit this beach surf the waves of this beach. Some Nigerians too surf at this beach.

You can have a picnic at the beach, host a beach party or hang out. Also, you can play games with your friends to pass time. Engage in board games like scrabble, monopoly, or even cards.

If you love sport, you play soccer or volleyball at this beach. You can also pay to enjoy a quad bike ride at this beach. Another fun beach I would recommend that you visit is Lekki leisure beach. This beach is so fun and you have access to every facility for free after paying a 2000naira entry fee. So, if you want to visit the beach anytime soon, visit Tarkwa bay beach.

Tarkwa bay beach has so many options for places to stay in. There beach view houses you can book to stay at the beach.

These beach house are luxury beach with at least 2 bedrooms. You can book this beach houses as perfect place to go on honeymoon.

There are also hotels near tarkwa bay beach you can stay in. These hotels gives a luxury feel and it quite close to the beach. The below are the hotels near tarkwa bay beach.

  1. Light house beach hotel. This hotel is painted all white with a pool. You can also opt to have a day pass to Light house beach.
  2. Ocean view beach camp and tarkwa bay cafe: This is my favorite of the hotels. You get to enjoy a feel of home away from home. This beach house is very beautiful.

Lagos is one the busiest city in the world. However, it has so many hotels you can stay if its your first time in the city. There are so many hotels in Lagos especially in its capital city, Ikeja. You can find hotels in Lagos for every budget; guest house, budget hotels and luxury hotels. Kelsey Greene villa is an affordable luxury hotel you need to know. It is located in Ikeja city just a few minutes ride from the international airport. It is also close to a lot of Lagos side attractions you can explore as a tourist. Kelsey Greene Villa is located at Julie estate, 16 Olaniji street Allen Ikeja. It is a few minutes from the airport. Also, it is about 2km from Actis mall, and Lagos state secretariat. If you’re looking to enjoy golf, it is about 5km from Ikeja Golf club. Don’t fret about having tech issues as the computer village also a few kilometers close to this villa.

Kelsey Greene Villa offers fully air conditioned rooms and breakfast to the lodgers. It also has its own restaurant within the premises for your meals. However, if you need other food options, you opt for short drive to Domino pizza or point bar and grill.

Facilities and amenities for lodgers

I love Kelsey Greene villa because they make you feel at home. It has a bar and lounge where you can have fun over drinks or lounge. You can also go for a swim in their pool. Also, you can have a hangout or a pool side party with friends at the bar.

  1. JJT park: This a fun park close the Lagos state government secretariat. It is free to access. Also, it is few minutes walk from Shoprite. You can have picnic at this park. There are vendors that sell food at this park. However, you can stroll to Shoprite to get food and drinks for your picnic. You can read my post on things to do at JJT park for fun.
  2. New Afrika Shrine: This is the music Icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti Shrine. The former shrine was re-built by his son. I would not recommend this places that much. Although, it is a fun bar and restaurant. You can affordable finger foods and drinks. However, this shrine is not the best place for fun ( The cigarette smokes and Louts were everywhere).   3. Kalakuta Museum: This is the home of the Late Fela. I love this place as it is well taken care of. Also, they provide a tour guide to show you all of Fela works, art , albums and his room. However, you are not allowed access into the room or to take pictures. It is 1000naira to access the Museum. You can end your tour by stopping at the roof top bar.
  4. Ndubuisi Kalu Park: This park is behind JJT park. However, it is a smaller park. love this park because of it beautiful landscape. Just like JJT park, it is free to access. You can hangout with your friends, do a picnic, photoshoot or party at this park. There are also Vendors that sells foods and drinks at this park.

There are so many fun places to explore in Africa. One of such places you need to add to your bucket list is Johannesburg, South Africa. My colleague and I always get excited for annual leave. P.S. I have a regular day job too. So, you can relate to our excitement to go on leave. Unlike her usual leave, She got invited to attend her friends wedding in Johannesburg. We were so excited about this. Who doesn’t need an excuse to go on vacation or trip? Anyway, she gladly agreed to share her experience with me on this blog. So, if you’re planning to go to Johannesburg, these are some fun things you can do. Most of these activities are easy inexpensive things to engage in. Also, if you need things to do as a couple on vacation, these fun things are a great option.

Arrival to Johannesburg from Nigeria

She arrived late a night at Johannesburg. However, the place was quite quite for her. She stayed at Green stone hill estate. This is a very beautiful estate. However, she stayed with a friend at the estate. Johannesburg is a beautiful city. You can choose to stay in a hotel or an Airbnb on your visit. I love the Airbnb option because of the feel of home. You can cook your own meals in Airbnb’s.

Can I go to South Africa without Visa?

South Africa is not a visa free destination for Nigerians. So, if you need visit, you need to get a visa. My colleague got her visa processed by an agent. There are so many agents that do that. For ease, I would recommend you apply for your visa from Agents.

As soon as you get your visa, your entry is now guaranteed.

Which Airlines goes to South Africa from Nigeria?

There are a couple of airlines that fly from Nigeria to South Africa. Although, fewer airlines fly there now due to COVID restriction. Ensure you read the COVID guidelines for entry into South Africa. Also, note that most countries now require you to take test or be fully vaccinated for entry. The airlines that fly to South Africa include Kenya airways, South African airways etc. On her trip, she had a short Layover at Nairo, Kenya. What can you do with your Layover?   1. Mandela Square, Sandon: You can take a stroll to Mandela square. This place holds great history for the people of South Africa. You get to see the statue of Mandela. His role in the lives of the people of South Africa can never be forgotten.
  2. Sun City: Another fun place to visit is Sun city. This is a recreational center at Johannesburg. She took part in a maze game in which she won a gift voucher. This voucher she exchanged for a refreshing soft drink.
