Best beaches in Badagry Lagos
In no particular order, here are some of the best beaches in Badagry:
Coconut Beach
As its name suggests, Coconut Beach is a tranquil haven adorned with lush coconut palm trees swaying gently in the ocean breeze. Swimming and sunbathing are some of the top activities to do when you visit this beach.
The serene ambience is ideal for visitors to lounge on the soft sands or indulge in thrilling water sports such as jet skiing and parasailing. Additionally, Coconut Beach features a vibrant local market where visitors can savour delicious seafood delicacies and shop for handmade crafts, adding to the cultural experience. It’s my favourite aspect of the beach.
I love that the local market gives me the opportunity to mingle with the locals and even haggle prices. Most things I know about Badagry today, I learned from friends I met at the local market. With its natural beauty and array of activities, Coconut Beach is a must-visit destination for those seeking relaxation and adventure alike.
Suntan Beach: Best beach in Badagry Lagos for couples and families
If you’re looking for a hotspot known for its vibrant atmosphere and array of recreational activities, Suntan Beach is the place to be. One thing I love about this beach is that there are no limitations for what you can do.
Once you’re ready to have fun, you have many activities to choose from. What matters is that you have the energy. There’s an abundance of amenities on this location, including beachfront restaurants serving delicious local cuisines, and lively bars where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and live music.
Adventure enthusiasts can partake in thrilling water rides such as banana boating or embark on scenic boat cruises along the coastline. Families can delight in picnics on the sandy shores or engage in friendly beach volleyball matches. With its lively ambiance and diverse offerings, Suntan Beach promises endless hours of fun and excitement for visitors of all ages.
One thing I love about this beach is that after paying the entrance fee, you have access to the beach huts for free. This stands out for me as I have been to some beaches in other places where I still had to pay to access a beach hut.
Suntan beach is a lovely spot that I would always want to keep visiting, and I’m sure you would have same experience.
Whispering Palms: Best beach in Badagry for couples
Whenever I talk about Badagry, this is one of the first places that people mention as it is very popular. Anyway, it isn’t surprising, as it lives up to its hype. It is important to keep in mind that entrance to this place is not free.
Tucked away amidst swaying palm trees and lush greenery, Whispering Palms gives a tranquil vibe that makes you feel like you’re home even when far from home. This secluded beach resort offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, allowing visitors to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Personally I highly recommend this resort if you need budget friendly places to enjoy honeymoon in Lagos. You would love it here. The food, the music, the sports and networking is all worth it at whispering palms Badagry.
Guests can lounge by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, pamper themselves with rejuvenating spa treatments, or explore the surrounding mangrove forests on guided nature walks. You should not leave this place without going for a boat pedal ride. It requires 4 people to take a ride and you’re in luck if you’re with friends. Even if you are there alone, it gives you the opportunity to make new friends.
As the sun sets in a blaze of orange and pink hues, Whispering Palms transforms into a magical haven where peace and serenity abound. It is always a feast for the eyes. Whether seeking relaxation or cultural immersion, Whispering Palms offers an idyllic retreat for those craving serenity and natural beauty.
Gberefu Island (Point of No Return)
This beach is also one of the popular sites in Badagry. Gberefu Island, also known as the Point of No Return, holds a poignant place in history as a departure point for enslaved Africans during the transatlantic slave trade. Despite its sombre past, the island offers stunning natural beauty, with pristine beaches and turquoise waters providing a tranquil setting for reflection and remembrance.
Visitors can explore the island’s historic landmarks, including the Slave Port and the Point of No Return monument, paying homage to the resilience of those who came before them. Additionally, Gberefu Island offers opportunities for snorkeling and diving, allowing visitors to discover the vibrant marine life thriving beneath the surface.
With its blend of history and natural beauty, Gberefu Island serves as a powerful reminder of Nigeria’s past while offering a serene escape for contemplation and appreciation of the present.
Keep in mind that you will do a bit of walking before you get to the beach itself. It is usually more fun to visit this place as a group. It might get a tad bit emotional visiting this place due to the slave history information you will learn. However, it is an experience that is worth it.
