Many people put off traveling as a luxury they can’t afford. Even now that the world inflation is on high. Here is how to budget and save money for travel seamlessly.

I love to travel for an international trip at least once a year. This I have achieved this year on my recent trip to Douala Cameroon.

Next year first quarter, my goal is to go on another international trip to the west coast. The city of Gold, Ghana. So, here I will be sharing my tried and tested tips of over 5 years of travel.

How to budget and save money for travel

Why do you need to budget travel? Like with everything or plan, you need to create a budget.

A budget will give you an insight into what you can afford. Recently, I did a budget for trip, and with the current inflation, I realise my budget was too low.

Did I still achieve my travel goal? Yes. But I have to opt for budget friendly options. For example, going for hotel Alternatives instead of luxury hotels. Also, eating from the local food stands instead of a chic restaurant. Etc.

Let’s jump right into how to budget and save money for travel.

Budget and save money for travel
  1. PLAN YOUR TRIP AND CREATE A BUDGET

In all my trips, I also do a detailed research and plan my trip. I go as far determining the place I will stay and how far it is to the things to do or the city’s hotspot.

The last time I decided to go with the flow, i lost so much money and time. Now i do my research and determine the total cost.

I know that the rising inflation may affect my plan, yet I prepare for such inflation. Determine the total cost for your trip and start working towards it.

You can save money while traveling by going for hotel Alternatives, sharing cost or looking for deals to save from. Yet , a budget will give you an overview of how much it will cost you.

2. BREAK DOWN THE COST INTO ACHIEVEABLE SAVING GOALS

I cannot over emphasize saving for your trip. So, I love to save money towards my travel goals.

No one likes to go on a trip and come back to debt from such trip.

Now that I know my budget, it’s time to break down the cost to monthly saving goals. This I do with calculator.me savings calculator.

This calculator gives me an insight into how much to set aside monthly to achieve my goal. Also, it give a realistic overview of my travel goal factoring the inflation rate, the interest rate if any and other factors.

So as I plan for my trip, I am sure that I have m budget and financial goals covered.

3. ADOPT A FRUGAL LIFESTYLE

Another way to budget and save for travel is to adopt a frugal lifestyle. Cancel that subscription that you don’t need. You know that subscription that you can live without.

I love to follow the Nerflix series, Emily in Paris, yet I cancelled my subscription. The extra money from the subscription I add to my travel savings.

Only spend on your necessities for now. Even if you can afford luxury, cut down to make your travel savings goal achievable.

How to budget and save money for travel

4. Save for plan B,C AND D.

I love to plan as I hate surprises. When I say surprises, i mean hitches and bumps in my plans. But pleasant surprises, count me in.

As I save for my travel goals, I also save for plan B etc. You never know. Save money for unplanned circumstances.

This reminds me of my pregnancy. I had some money saved for complications and thankfully, there was none. Save for travel insurance and any other unforeseen circumstances.

As you plan your trip, be flexible with your dates. If after setting your budget and using the calculator to determine your monthly savings, your date is not feasible. Adjust it to achievable monthly savings or feasible travel date.

How to budget and save money for travel with ease

I remember the first reaction my friends had when I shared my dreams of touring African countries. What are the safest African countries to visit?

It is no news that so many African countries are undergoing unrest. I have to cancel my trip to Douala Cameroon by road because of the unrest between the anglophone and francophone regions.

Also, South Sudan recently went into an unrest. Kenya had their own squabble lately but it was transient. Yet Kenya has the most beautiful safaris in Africa to see. Some are luxuries while others are on a budget.

There were many reactions, but fear and concern were the distinct ones that stood out.

My friends shared their worries about insecurity and thought it was an unwise dream. Yes, some African countries have security issues, giving them a negative reputation. But this shouldn’t be used as a general yardstick for all the countries on the continent.

Sadly, this has become the norm and general perception. However, I’m here to let you know that there is no continent without security issues in some countries. So if you share the same dreams with me and want to embark on a trip across Africa, nothing should stop you.

In this article, I’ll be sharing some of the safest countries in Africa for anyone to visit.

Whether you’re looking for fun outdoor activities to do in Africa. These places are safe to explore. Also, you can check out these options of Visa-free countries for US citizens.

Safest African countries to visit in 2023

Safest African Countries to Visit

In no particular order, they are:

Mauritius

For some reason, the tropical islands stand as one of the safest places to visit in Africa, and Mauritius is one of these places. Staying or visiting this country feels like you’re in paradise. It has beautiful scenery with pristine beaches and lush greenery.

It has become a destination location to many and it is one of the safe havens in Africa. I love that the country has been able to leverage its tourism aspect. In light of this, I also love that they prioritize the safety of both foreigners and locals.

There would never be a moment where you would feel unsafe if you visited Mauritius.

Seychelles

Another safe country to visit in Africa is Seychelles. Mauritius and Seychelles are highly similar as they are both tourist islands. One of the reasons why this country has captured the hearts of many is because people feel safe whenever they visit it.

If you’re ever thinking of visiting Seychelles, you shouldn’t think twice about it. The country has many beautiful beaches and has a certain air of serenity. It presents itself as a home away from home for many.

It is not surprising that many people visit this country and do not mind paying repeat visits. Seychelles stands tall as a top country in Africa in many areas, including safety.

Madagascar

Are you like me whose mind goes straight to the cartoon whenever I think of Madagascar? Calm down, I won’t judge you!

One thing about Madagascar is that it brings you closer to culture. You get to learn a lot about the country and have a close feel of it. You would leave like a local by the time you’re leaving the country.

Aside from its cultural uniqueness, Madagascar is also a safe country. It is one of those countries where you can go on relaxing walks in the evenings without any fear. So, why not give it a try?

Uganda

One thing I admire about Uganda over the years is how they have stayed consistent at improvement. One minute it seems like the country isn’t rated, the next minute, they are standing gallantly as one of the top and safest countries to visit in Africa.

The country has become a giant business hub and also a top tourist location in the continent. This country is known as the Pearl of Africa and plays home to Lake Victoria

The fact that this country is politically stable is one of the reasons why it is rated as one of the safest countries to visit in Africa.

Zambia

It is easy to overlook Zambia when you’re looking for African countries to visit. However, I like to view this place as a gold or gem that’s waiting to be discovered.

I remember the first time I learned about Zambia. At first, I was quite skeptical about the country. But after doing my research with an open mind, I realized that it is a visitor-friendly country. For a place that is home to Victoria Falls, I highly recommend the country to anyone looking to explore countries in Africa.

If you’re curious about your safety in Zambia, be assured that it is politically stable. Therefore, there are no cases of political crisis and there is general overall safety in the country

Rwanda

I might be a little biased when it concerns Rwanda as it is one of my favorite countries to visit in Africa. It has a calming scenery, and it is always pleasing to see how much the country has developed whenever I visit it.

From its lush hills to its serene lakes, you can tell that the country has a strong commitment to safety and tourism development. Many people have started discovering Rwanda, and the country has gotten a high inflow of foreigners in recent times.

I love that safety is also of high priority to the government of this country. They believe that no one should feel unsafe within the country. So, if you’re in Rwanda, you do not need to have your guard up every time.

Namibia

What are the tourist attractions in Namibia? This is one of the most common questions I get whenever I mention Namibia as a country worth visiting.

Typically, people think that Namibia is a country with lots of deserts. So, there are no high expectations when visiting Namibia. However, it is a wrong perspective as Namibia is a beautiful country.

One thing about Namibia is that they know how to utilize their spaces. More often than not, the government develops these spaces and turns them into beautiful national parks.

Namibia is also a peaceful country where the locals are very welcoming. Therefore, it is classified as one of the safest countries to visit in Africa.

Botswana

Another country to consider visiting in terms of safety in Africa is Botswana. This country has a record for being peaceful in all aspects, including politics. The locals believe in peace and harmony and would heartily open their arms to newbies.

You will experience peace of mind when you visit this country and might not even want to leave.

Benin Republic

Some people see this country as small and think that it has nothing to offer. However, with experience, I can tell you that these small and underrated countries usually have a lot to offer.

The Benin Republic is a place where you discover new things every day while visiting. It is a country that preserves cultural heritage and more. In addition, it is also a safe country to visit in Africa. Check out these top 15 best things to do in Benin Republic.

Mozambique

If you have Seychelles and Mauritius on your bucket list of places to visit in Africa, then you should also add Mozambique as it brings the same vibes as these other places. It is one of the best countries to visit as a beach lover.

You also get a blanket of safety while visiting this country. By the time you leave, you will be the one telling others about the safe nature of the country.

Gothic and punk fashion have long been iconic subcultures that have left an indelible mark on the world of style. With their roots in rebellion and a penchant for the unconventional, these two distinct styles have captivated the imaginations of countless individuals.

In this article, we’ll explore the characteristics and evolution of gothic and punk dress, shedding light on their unique aesthetics and enduring appeal.

Cute Gothic outfits: Elegance in Darkness

Gothic fashion emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, drawing inspiration from the gothic literature and the dark, romantic elements of Victorian fashion. One of the most striking features of gothic dress is its affinity for black, characterized by clothing items like corsets, lace, velvet, and flowing skirts. Gothic fashion enthusiasts often gravitate towards dramatic makeup, including heavy eyeliner and dark lipstick, to complete their look.

Gothic fashion is not just about a monochrome palette; it’s also about intricate details and textures. From ornate jewelry featuring crosses and other gothic symbols to the use of fishnet stockings and leather accessories, gothic dress emphasizes a sense of mystery and allure. The gothic subculture is known for its love of the macabre, and this is reflected in clothing adorned with skulls, bats, and other dark imagery.

Punk Fashion: Rebellion and DIY Attitude

Punk fashion, on the other hand, originated in the 1970s as a response to the mainstream music and fashion of the time. Punk dress is characterized by its rebellious spirit, anti-establishment attitude, and do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos. Key elements of punk fashion include leather jackets, ripped clothing, band t-shirts, and combat boots. Punk attire often features safety pins, studs, and patches as a form of self-expression.

The punk subculture embraces chaos and anarchy, and this is mirrored in its fashion choices. Punk enthusiasts often dye their hair in bright, unconventional colors and adorn themselves with multiple piercings and tattoos. The DIY aspect of punk fashion encourages individuals to create their own unique looks, promoting creativity and non-conformity.

Cute Gothic Outfits: Evolution and Influence

Both gothic and punk fashion have evolved over the years, adapting to changing cultural and fashion trends while retaining their core identities. Gothic fashion, for instance, has seen the emergence of sub-genres like cybergoth, which incorporates futuristic and neon elements into the traditional gothic aesthetic.

Punk fashion, too, has undergone transformations, with subcultures like pop-punk and hardcore punk influencing the style’s trajectory. Today, elements of punk fashion, such as leather jackets and band t-shirts, have become mainstream staples in the world of fashion, reflecting the enduring influence of the punk subculture.

Gothic and punk fashion are not merely styles of dress; they are vibrant subcultures that have played a significant role in challenging societal norms and pushing the boundaries of self-expression. Both subcultures share a commitment to individuality, a rejection of conformity, and a love for the unconventional. Whether you find yourself drawn to the elegance of gothic fashion or the rebellious spirit of punk, these styles continue to captivate and inspire those who dare to stand out from the crowd.

The goal of traveling is to explore new places, learn new things, meet new people, etc. All these would not happen if you stick to your comfort zone.

In this article, I will be sharing some of the best solo travel tips for first time travelers. With the tips, you will get the most out of your traveling experience.

Best Solo travel tips

Best solo travel tips

I love to travel alone sometimes. This is because it avails me opportunity to meet new friends and Network. One of the best Solo travel tips I highly recommend is to stay in Hostels.

Hostels enable you to meet people. Also, it is a budget friendly option while you’re on your trip. You get to save more on accommodation while having fun. Click here to book on hostel world. This is my best brand that I can recommend for booking budget friendly hotel stays.

Also, you can opt for hotel alternatives to further cut down on cost of accommodation. Lets jump right into my best Solo travel tips that will come in handy for anyone looking to travel alone.

Research

I cannot overemphasize the power of research as a solo first time traveler. You need to get all the information you can get about the place you plan to visit. Is the region safe? Are the people welcoming to foreigners? What are the best activities to do while there? What are some laws of the land?

These are important questions that should help as a guide when you’re researching about the place. With this information, you can make a more informed decision about your traveling plans. Check out my tips on how to plan a trip while doing your research.

I always say that information is the best tool anyone can have, and it also applies to solo travelers. So, research is the first thing you should do to kickstart your process.

Select your accommodation

The place you stay is always the icing to the cake when you travel to a new place. If you’re not comfortable, you’re sure to have a bad traveling experience.

One of the first things to do before embarking on your solo trip is to search and select an accommodation option. This way, you will not be stranded when you arrive.

In selecting an accommodation type or option, you should always work with your budget and reviews. By reading the reviews of the place, you get to know if it is a good option. You also get to know about the facilities and amenities they offer.

Hotels are the obvious options while traveling. A good hotel should have these things before you book it. I love to stay in a hotel when I travel. However, if I feel like it, I’d prefer to book an Airbnb or shortlet. If you’re new to Airbnb, you need to know this Airbnb red flags to avoid being burnt.

Stay Alert

It is always important to keep in mind that you’re in unfamiliar terrain. Therefore, you should always be sharp and alert. What applies in that region may not be the same in your home city. So, being alert is necessary so that you do not lose important items.

I would always advise that solo first time travelers avoid crowded spaces and also avoid keeping late nights. Yes, you can have fun while still being conscious about your environment and safety.

You should also work with your guts and intuition. If you feel something is not right, you should leave immediately. This one of my best travel tips whether you’re traveling solo or with your family.

Blend In

Some people say that you should act like Romans when in Rome. There are many explanations to this phrase, and I find it helpful for solo first time travelers.

When you go to a new place, you should try to act like the locals. It comes in handy if you can learn some of the local phrases. Not only would it help in blending in, but it also makes you more likable amongst the locals.

You get more props if you dress the way they do. This way, you are not attracting attention to yourself or making it visible that you’re new in the area.

Work with a tour guide

It’s easy to become overwhelmed when you’re in a new place. In such a situation, you become drained and may remain indoors as the feeling drains you of your energy. However, this will not happen if you work with a tour guide.

The tour guide takes the responsibility of planning your itinerary, ensuring that you maximize your time and have fun while in the city. With a tour guide, you’re less overwhelmed and you will learn a lot.

Of course,  getting a tour guide isn’t free. It is why you have to research people offering this service, and pick the best suitable that matches your budget.

I highly recommend Get your guide for your tours in Africa, US and Europe. They offers the best tours for any budget whether luxury or on a budget. Click here to book a tour with Get your guide.

Stay connected

As a solo traveler in a new place for the first time, it is highly important for you to always be connected and online. That period is not the time for you to be offline or unreachable.

Whenever I travel to a new place for the first time, it is almost like my friends and family are with me. I ensure to always give them real-time updates about my outings and activities. This way, they have the assurance that I am safe. Also, if anything goes south, they have an idea about my last location.

Therefore, ensure you get a new sim once you arrive at the place or find a way to stay connected to the internet. However, I highly recommend you go for e-sims instead of collecting Sim cards as you travel. As an explorer, I love e-sims.

Never heard of e-sims, Click here to learn more on why you need e-sims for your travel. I highly recommend you use Airalo for your travels. This will help you stay connect online to chat, calls and keep in touch with your loved ones. Click here to sign for Airalo for your trip in Africa, Europe or USA.

Keep an open mind

Being open minded also works as one of the top tricks to enjoying your trip as a solo first time traveler. It is best to keep in mind that what works in your home city may not be the same that applies in the new city. However, it should not mean that you shouldn’t have fun or enjoy the best of your travel experience.

With an open mind, you will explore more things like food. It is also easier to connect with the locals when you’re open minded. I tell my friends that the fun never stops when you keep an open mind.

Connect with the locals

The locals of any place are the best people to help you enjoy the city better. You should always wear a smile while walking around and be polite. Try having meaningful conversations with the locals, and they will welcome you with open arms.

I’ve noticed that the locals are always ready and delighted to carry me along when I make an effort to connect with them. Sometimes, I don’t stick with my initial itinerary as the locals would include me in their plans.

They are also ready to help out in any way if I encounter challenges.

Do not give out too much information

As much as it is necessary to connect with the locals, it is also important that you do not give out too much information about yourself. Some things are best left unsaid.

Learn basic self defense

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to encourage violence. But, I always advocate that basic self defense is a skill that every human should learn.

By learning basic self defense, you have higher confidence that you can protect yourself when you’re in a new place. Your safety should be a top priority and knowing how to defend yourself makes that happen.

Get travel insurance

As a solo first time traveler, you should always plan for the unexpected. Thus, getting travel insurance is important. When you have one, you have the assurance that you’re covered if anything goes wrong.

Best solo travel tips to boost your confidence as a solo traveler

What are you to look out for while booking hotels? A good hotel should have these things I want to share. Here are the best tips for booking hotels that is just right for you. Also, you can avoid hotel booking mistakes with these tips.

I remember almost freaking out the first time I had to travel to another country on my own as the thoughts of finding accommodation were terrifying. Although I was going to a new country, the nerves were in place as I had no idea where to stay and accommodation is an essential part of any travel plan.

Together with my friends, we came up with some guidelines and factors to consider when booking a hotel. With these factors, I was able to ensure that I got the best hotel during my vacation.

Since then, I have always used those factors as a guide before choosing a hotel, and they have never failed me. In this article, I would be sharing these factors as tips to consider when booking a hotel.

They help to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay and make the best out of your vacation.

Tips for booking hotel

Tips for booking hotels

These factors and tips to consider before booking your hotel are as follows.

Budget

Before embarking on any trip, I know you would have a budget. In this budget, you’ve also factors in and made provision for accommodation. Thus, it is the accommodation budget that informs the type of hotel you would book.

If you’re on a strict budget, you would be going for less expensive hotels. It is ideal to always have a budget before going ahead to check for hotels. With a budget, the searching process becomes easier.

Working with your budget also ensures that your planning process is in place. This way, you wouldn’t spend all your money on hotels as you know your limit. You can also check out my tested and tried tips on how to plan the best trip on a budget.

Location

Before going ahead to book any hotel, you should also check the location of the hotel. It wouldn’t make sense to book a hotel that is on the outskirt of town. If you do this, you would be spending a lot on transportation.

Ideally, the hotel you book should be within proximity to hot spot areas. As a tourist, you should book a hotel that is close to tourist attractions, restaurants, relaxation spots, etc.

Your hotel should be situated in an area that should be within walking distance to these locations if possible. It helps to reduce your expenses during your trip.

Reviews

What are people saying about the hotel? For me, I always check out reviews about any hotel I’m considering as it informs my decision. From these reviews, I can tell if I would get value from the hotel or not.

There was a time I forgot about checking reviews and was about to book a hotel. Luckily I checked out the reviews at the last minute and it saved me from wasting money on the hotel.

People are always going to drop ratings and reviews about their experience at any facility. It is also a red flag when there are no reviews about a place.

Reviews will also save you from booking the worst Airbnb apartment if that is what you’d prefer. Also, check out my tips for booking Airbnb as a beginner.

Tips for booking hotels in Nigeria
Amenities

I know that there are some things you’re looking to enjoy at any hotel you want to stay. It might be the free Wifi, swimming pool, or even a gym. These are some amenities that some hotels provide.

However, it would be unwise to assume that you can get these amenities at every hotel. Instead of working on assumptions, check through the website of any hotel you’re considering to know if they have the amenities you desire.

It is always important that any hotel you book has the amenities you need. After all, you wouldn’t want to spend money on a hotel that doesn’t give your desired value.

If your hotel doesn’t have a WIFI but you still love the aesthetics, you need Airalo. Airalo offers you data to allow you communicate and use the internet while you are away. This is an e-sim you can use for all countries you visit.

You can choose to get the service per country or per region or continent. Check my post on why you should opt for e-sims in place of buying new sims per country.

Safety

Is the hotel safe for people to stay? This is an important question to answer before booking a hotel.

You can check this from different angles including the location of the hotel. It is always best to check and ensure that the hotel is not in a high-brow crime area. Your choice should be in a peaceful and calm location.

Also, you should check to know if the hotel has security measures in place like security personnel’s. Safety is a very important factor for me to consider, especially when I am visiting an unfamiliar region. It is one of my top tips for booking hotels.

However, it is not a good idea to travel without travel insurance. We plan but things may happen even with all the tips. Also, there may be medical emergencies or other things you need sort on your travel. Hence, you need to add a travel insurance to your must have travel essential.

Check in and check out times

The check-in and checkout time of the hotel must also align with your traveling schedule or you would have a sore experience. I remember once staying in a hotel where the checkout time was 10am and my flight was for 1pm. I had to pay for the extra hours I stayed in the hotel which went above my traveling budget.

Since that day, I’ve always ensured to research the check-in and checkout times of any hotel I’m considering. I’ve noticed that many people are not aware of this tip. However, it is best to keep in mind that not all hotels have the same check-in and checkout times.

Cancellation policy

What happens if something comes up and you no longer have to travel? Would the hotel refund your money or not?

The cancellation policy of a hotel is also another factor to consider before booking a hotel. Understandably, life can be unpredictable. Suppose the travel plan doesn’t work out again, it would be nice to get a refund.

Some hotels have a no refund policy, while others may give half refund. In some cases, you may be lucky that the hotel gives a full refund. The circumstances vary, depending on the cancellation policy of the hotel. So, pick a hotel with a favorable cancellation policy.

Policies

Asides from the cancellation policy, you should also keep an eye out for other policies to ensure that you are fully aware of everything. For example, some hotels do not allow people to lodge with children. Of course, we can say such hotels are not family friendly. Therefore, you shouldn’t book such a hotel if you’re traveling with your family.

Also, there are hotels that are not pet-friendly. If you have plans to travel with your pet, you have to find a suitable hotel.

Always ensure that you familiarize yourself with all the policies before booking a hotel. It helps to ensure that you do not pay hidden fees.

Membership , loyalty and discount programs

Although this is not a deal breaker for me. Yet, it is one of the top tips for booking hotels you need to know. Who doesn’t love a discount or loyalty program?

Some hotels run loyalty programs for regular lodgers and these are my best type of hotels. The more you stay in such hotels, the more you earn points that give you discounts on future stays.

When checking for hotels to book, check for such hotels. There are many perks to enjoy when you book such a hotel.

Room options

Knowing the room options is also important as it would influence your decision. Check the types of rooms available (single, double, suite) and their sizes. Make sure the room suits your needs and preferences.

The room options is one of the mots important tips for booking hotels you should know. Don’t just book, check out the room options to find out if it is just right for you.
