Travel tips

Lagos life is so demanding each day due to its endless traffic. ( a short trip within Lagos may take longer due to the unending traffic). However, there are so many recreational options to help you de-stress in Lagos. One of the best places to unwind and breathe is the beach. So, I decided to unwind at Oniru Beach Lagos for the holiday with my siblings.

Lagos has so many beaches due to its closeness to the Atlantic. Check out my top 15 best beaches in Lagos to visit on a budget, you’d be sold. Oniru Beach is a private beach owned by the Oniru Palace. Also, there is a beach clubhouse (Moist beach club) you can visit for its rich sea foods and cuisines.

My experience at Moist Beach was not a pleasant one. I reach out via their contact to know what I need to visit their club and have a good time. The staff was very helpful over the phone. However, I was denied entry on my visit because I have to buy an expensive bottle of wine to gain entry. WTF!. Long and short of this story, you need to buy a drink to access this lounge. Like wow.

Oniru Beach Lagos, All you need to know

Here are some things to know and do at Oniru private beach, Lagos. Here I will be sharing some fun things to do at Oniru Beach Lagos, street foods to try, and the gate fee. Also, note that you have to pay to access any of the facilities at Oniru Beach.

The beach benches, loungers, and cabanas are all available for a fee. Most of the facilities are owned by restaurants and bars.

How to get to Oniru Private Beach

Oniru Beach is located at 1, Ligali Ayorinde Street, close to Landmark, water corporation drive, and V.I. From the mainland, you take BRT to Obalende bus stop, then a bus for 200 naira to water corporation drive.

Also, you can take a bus going to Lekki and stop at Oniru bus stop along with the sand fill bus stop, then take a bus for 100 naira to Oniru beach. However, from a sandfill bus stop, if you don’t mind a little walk, you can trek to the beach.

On my visit, my siblings and I chose to walk to the beach from Sand fill. It was quite interesting though because she was gisting and we saw some lovely places in the estate too.

Oniru Beach Lagos is located close to the popular Good Beach Lagos. I love this beach, click here to watch my vlog on the Good Beach Lagos.

Oniru Beach Lagos Gate fee

Oniru Beach Lagos is open to anyone 24 hours daily. The peak period is during weekends and holidays. So, you can visit at any time of the day. Although, there is a curfew for 12:00 am in which you can no longer access this beach until morning.

The gate fee for entry to the beach is 1000 naira per person. However, my younger sibling was given access for free on holiday. So, I am unable to confirm if this applies every other day.

Fun things to do at Oniru Beach

If you want to enjoy this beach, I would recommend you visit during weekdays. On weekends, the beach becomes so crowded. Also, the vendors at the beach make it so unappealing to explore it.

There are so many chairs or tents for rent- so compact and close to the water. It is almost impossible to enjoy a stroll on the bank of the beach. However, there are more organized beach tents or cabanas available at this beach.

The tent cost from 10000naira to as high as 60000naira for a VIP tent. One of the bars with great cabanas I would recommend is G12. They offer cabanas for as low as 15000 naira to 60000 naira in their bar. Also, I love their customer service too.

However, if you’re on a budget, you can visit the beach with your own mat, or umbrella to have fun with your friends and family. I will be linking below where to shop for beach mats and umbrellas. Aside from the bars that offer drinks, their vendors sell barbecue chicken, beef, or drinks.

I would recommend you come with your food, snacks or drinks. The price for the berbecue beef & drinks are quite expensive though. My sister wanted to buy suya (berbecue beef) at the beach and lowest price is 500 naira. I couldn’t believe it, his reason was that it is beach suya. (I don’t get it)

There are so many fun activities you can do at Oniru Beach. Here are some of the things you can do for fun.

1. Horse riding

Horse riding is one of the fun activities you can do at Oniru Beach. You can take pictures with a horse for 500 naira and take a ride for 1000 naira. Actually, I feel it is outrageous to charge people for taking pictures with horses.

I’d rather pay to ride the horse and take pictures while I am at it. I wish the horse owners at the beach will review their prices. Usually, the cost for horse riding on most beaches in Lagos is 500 naira plus pictures e.g. Suntan beach.

2. Jet Skiing

I have always heard of jet skiing but I never knew it is activities that can be done in Nigeria. Jet skiing is a form of water sport for recreation using a bike-like machine called a jet ski. So, if you love to pump up your adrenaline, definitely try out Jet skiing at Oniru Beach.

3. Boat Ride

Another fun thing to do at Oniru Beach is to enjoy a boat ride. There are vendors that offer fun boat rides for tourists at the beach. The boat ride is always fun. So, if you’re looking for fun things to do at Oniru, opt for a fun boat ride.

4. Joyride amusement facilities

Oniru Beach is also perfect for a family hangout. There are amusement facilities for children and for adults that are young at heart to enjoy.

However, the facility for Joy Ride is not powered by electricity but is run by young men who pull nice stunts while prepping the machine. The cost to have a ride is 500 naira per person.

5. Picnic

Another fun thing to do at Oniru is to have a picnic with family or friends. You can do this by renting their chairs, cabanas, or simply goat your beach mat and umbrellas.

Also, you can go with your food and drinks to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. You can play games like Ludo or Scrabble to engage yourself. To add more fun, go with your music player to entertain yourself at the beach.

The ambiance of Oniru Beach is quite busy and crowded. However, you can take great pictures for content creation or a pre-wedding shoot at the beach.

Oniru private beach is on the same row as the following beaches.

  • Landmark beach: Top beach in Lagos for fun seekers looking to enjoy luxury beach.

Oniru Beach Lagos: Fun things to do and know

There are so many recreational parks to explore in Lagos both on the mainland and Island. If you’re looking for free access to parks, definitely visit JJT & Ndubuisi Kanu Park. These parks are located in Ikeja, Lagos state. So, if you’re staying on the mainland, you can visit these parks for free. On the hand, if you’re on the island, you can opt for Muri Okunola Park Lagos. It was formerly known as Cloverleaf Park. There are so many things you can do at this park. So, if you plan to visit this park, here are some fun things to do.

Muri Okunola Park Chair

Where is Muri Okunola Park Located?

Muri Okunola Park is located at Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Law School bus stop, Victoria Island. It is just walking distance from Lagos Law School.

It will cost you 200 naira from Obalende to Muri Okunola Park. So, if you coming from the mainland, go to Obalende first before boarding another bus to this park.

On my visit from Oshodi, I took the BRT bus from the Oshodi terminal to Obalende. Since it was Christmas, the terminal in Lagos was decorated with lovely Christmas trees. I love all the variations of trees, especially the snow trees.

How much is the gate fee for Muri Okunola Park?

The park is free to access. So, all it will cost you is your transport fare. Also, it is open to anyone from 8 am to 8 pm daily. You can visit at any time of the year (even on public holidays). So, you need not worry about the park being crowded on holiday.

What can you do at Muri Okunola Park?

Muri Okunola Park has nice green carpet grass, palms, and lovely sculpture. One such art is the sculpture of the late Justice Muri Okunola. This is the first sculpture you will see. Also, it has an open banquet hall shed, chairs, mini bar, etc.

Also, the park has a toilet for use but I couldn’t differentiate that for males from females. Feel free to comment if you have visited this park and used the toilet. Below are things you can do at this park

1. Parties

Muri Okunola outdoor hall with its shed makes it a perfect place to have a party. You can host a cocktail party, wedding party, or an outdoor event at this park. So, if you need an affordable hall to party in and you don’t mind outdoors, definitely book this park.

To make a reservation, call +234 809 222 1407 or email venues@amgvenues.com.ng.

Disclaimer: This is not sponsored and I get no income for this. So, you can book away to support Lagos state income.

2. Picnic

The space and green carpet grass are so lovely. So, if you’re planning a picnic with family or friends, use this park. All you need is your picnic mat, wrapper, and a picnic umbrella. Click here to watch a fun picnic I had at JJT park.

Also, you can bring your own food and drinks to have fun with your loved ones. There is no charge for corkage. You can also patronize the minibar at the park for drinks. However, I would not recommend this because this park is on Victoria Island. ( Prices of basic things are times two the normal price in this area).

3. Photoshoot/ Content creation

The palms at Muri Okunola Park are so beautiful. You can take instagrammable pictures close to these trees. Also, if you’re a blogger or content creator, you also take pictures for content at this park.

If you’re looking to wed soon, definitely visit this park for pre-wedding shoots. The trees will make for a lovely backdrop for lovely pictures.

4. Study for your exams

I love the cool calmness of Muri Okunola Park. You can read for your examinations at this park. The quiet is almost like that of a library. Also, they offer free wifi just like JJT Park Lagos. So, you read and work on your research paper with ease. However, it is impossible to tell that they have Wifi because it is not stated anywhere in the park.

5. Workout sessions

Another thing you can do at this park is to go there for weekly work sessions with your friends. There is space to allow you and your friends to work out with ease. So, if working out is your thing, definitely visit the park to break a sweat and keep fit.

If you’re looking for other places to visit in Lagos for free, you can also read my post on the Lekki arts and craft market.

What to Wear to Muriokunola Park

Muriokunola Park is a fun recreational park. For my outfit of the day, I wore a simple casual outfit. A pair of jeans or shorts is perfect. Since the goal is to have fun and chill.

Also, I added an Ankara handbag I got from Lekki Arts and Crafts. This bag I got this with a travel-size Ankara bag which I have given out to a sibling. Have you visited the lekki arts and craft market? You should visit to shop for fashionable arts and crafts as well as handmade ankara accessories.

My sneakers are from Jumia Nigeria. A pair of sneakers or sandals are perfect. You shop everything on Jumia below.

Muri Okunola Park Lagos: Fun things to do

Airbnb is one of the best ways to get great and affordable stays for your travel. This brand has revamped the travel industry. Now, you can get the best apartment for your travel at an affordable price from the comfort of your home. Airbnb is an online brand that connects homeowners or home rental services with travelers. You can book a room or an entire apartment for your stay depending on your budget and your needs. But booking the best stay for your Airbnb travel can be quite dicey. Sometimes, most apartment experiences may not seem the way they look in pictures. I have not had had a bad experience using Airbnb for my travel. So, here are my 9 tips for booking Airbnb for travel as a first-timer

One the reasons I had put off most of my travels for the longest time is due to cost of accommodation. Aside the cost of transportation ( air, bus or train), food, tour, I try as much to keep the cost low on places to stay. So, I opt to visit places where I have a relative or friend that I can stay with. However, with Airbnb, you need not worry of where to stay. After sorting out your stay, you can read my post on travel essentials.

When should you book Airbnb?

There are several reason you need Airbnb. You can opt for Airbnb apartment for local and international travels. So, if you need to go for an examination in another city and you need place to stay, opt for Airbnb. There are several host that allows stay-in in their apartment for at least a day. So, you can book Airbnb for a short stay trip locally or internationally. You can stay in Airbnb for a few days vacation, family trip, business meeting or even a road trip with a short stop over.

Airbnb Apartment is a perfect option when you’re travelling in a large group. This makes it easier to get everyone in one place instead of different rooms as in the case of hotels with min of double beds. You can search for an Airbnb apartment that will take on as much guest that you want. All Airbnb host indicates the number of people their home or room can take at a time.

Also you are such that prefer to have home cooked meals. Opt for an Airbnb to enable you cook your own dishes. Moreover, since the pandemic, cooking your own meals is better than eating out. Cooking your meals also help you save on meals. Although, to have a feel of your locale you travel to, you need to try out the local dishes too. However, if you’re on a tight budget, cook your own meals to cut cost.

How to book an Airbnb Apartment?

Airbnb is an online brand so, you can only book for your apartment online. There are several options available to the host to determine how guest’s can use their apartment ( Request to book or instant booking). Personally, I have only experienced instant booking via Airbnb.

First, you need to type in the preferred location into the Airbnb search box. You can either filter by prices, nearby places or experience. There are so many apartment you can choose from on this website. If you find an apartment that you love, all you have to do is book.

Select your dates of stay and check availability on the site. If those dates are no longer available, you will have to choose other dates. And if changing your dates is not favorable for you, opt for another apartment that will suite your needs.

Airbnb accepts several payment methods like credit card, debit cards, prepaid card or PayPal. However, cash payment is not acceptable on this platform. Airbnb charges you as soon as you make a reservation. There is option to book and paylater.

9 Tips for booking Airbnb for travel

Choosing the best apartment for your stay will make your travel enjoyable and fun. So, to help you get the most out of your Airbnb stay, this tips will come in handy.

Look out for the Sparkle badge on host listing

The recent times demands us to take our hygiene personally. I have horror stories of some rooms looking so unkept. In other to put host on check, Airbnb has set up a 5 step guideline they have to follow to earn this badge.

So, to keep yourself save during these times, ensure you book rooms that has the sparkle badge. This shows that they comply with the Airbnb guidelines for safety and health.

Property type

There are several property for rental on Airbnb. So, before you book the property that suites you need. You can opt for a single room for solo travel or room with double bed for 2 guest. Also you can opt for large property for family trip. There are some listings that provides properties with several rooms for group trip. I used an Airbnb property recently that had about 3 blocks of flat in the compound. Each flat can contain at least 4 guest. So, if you find such property for a group trip, it will make it easier to have everyone in same compound. Property listing usually available on Airbnb include;

  • Entire place
  • Private rooms
  • Shared rooms
  • Hotel rooms: some hotels also list their rooms on Airbnb. So if you’d prefer hotels, you can book via Airbnb.

Filter with Amenities on property

Host on Airbnb do not provide all the amenities you may need for your travel. So, before you book your room, check for must-have amenities for your travel. For example if you’d be working during your stay you may need Wifi servies.

Also if you need to do your laundry, search for rooms with washer. Some facilities provided shared access to washer, ironing services and swimming pools. So, if you need private access these facilities, opt for listings with these services available. On my last hang out with my siblings to an Airbnb property, there was no iron available in the room. We had to use the shared iron available downstairs for the compound.

Get more information on the listing Neighbourhood

Another tip for booking Airbnb for your travel is to get to know the listing neighborhood. This is something I failed to do on my last Airbnb booking. It was a bumpy ride to the host apartment. Also, the location was far from the city’s side attractions. So, to access places like restaurants or parks, I had to spend a lot for transportation.

Before you book your listing for travel, ensure you look for apartments that are close to the city’s attraction. Also, listing with easy access to transport, market, restaurant, beaches or parks will help you reduce cost on your trip.

To make easy for me to book Airbnb for the best experience, I use the search box to input my preferred area. So, instead of typing in “Bali”, I input a more specific area in Bali so I get the best options. This narrows your search down and you zoom in to see the best listings available.

Read Reviews of other guest

As with any online payment I make, I ensure I read reviews of other buyers. This is to get a general overview based on other people experience. Airbnb request guest to review their stay with host on their listing. So, reading other guest review will help you decide whether to book a listing.

However, a negative review doesn’t mean that you should avoid such host. This is because based on previous feedback, the host may have improved their services.

Also, reviews can help you get the best experience on the property. For example, a host may add Wi-Fi as an added service. So, reviews from guests may tell you if the Wi-Fi works fine or not.

Check the charges and total listing Fee

There are added charges that are applied by host on Airbnb. These charges asides the stay fee adds to the total booking fee before check out. I always ensure that I pay attention to these fees before payment. I have had an instance where the cleaning charge was too high for an host compared to another. Other times the cleaning charge may be more than your actually charge for stay-in.

So, I would recommend you book from an host whose additional service charges are not over the roof. This is because a high service fee can hike up your total charge of booking your stay. I love to cut cost to the barest minimum, so I book listings that have a fair service fee.

Read the cancellation policy and check in instruction

Airbnb host always have their cancelation policy in their listing. So, before you book your Airbnb, read the cancelation policy of the host. There are 3 cancelation policy on Airbnb; Flexible, strict or Moderate.

If you travel date is certain, you can book a host that has either strict or moderate policy. However, you can opt for host with flexible cancelation policy incase you’re unsure of your travel dates.

Also, also contact the host for check in instruction. This is so you can have access to apartment with hassle. Some host may have workers at the apartment to assist you, leave the key in place that will be disclosed to you or receive you by themselves. Be mindful of the check-in time that comes with your booking. This because some guest may be leaving before your arrival. Check in with your host for such information and ask any questions as regards your stay.

Book your stay in Advance

Another tip for booking Airbnb for your travel is to book in Advance. This because most great listing gets booked faster. More so, during peak travel season, you may have to settle for what is available. So, I would recommend you book your stay early as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.

I love to search for Airbnb listing past the first page. You may stumble upon great apartments and affordable deals from hosts while you search. So, for your travel, do a thorough search on Airbnb for the best apartment to meet your need.

Top 10 fun things to do in Lagos state Nigeria

Omu resort Lagos is a lovely resort with a lot of side attractions located at Bogije, Lagos. This was the longest trip I have ever had on vacation within Lagos state as Bogije is close to the outskirt. Moreover, I had a terrible experience the first time I planned to visit.

Ever since I have always wondered how I survived the accident that occurred on my way to Omu resort without a scar. Thank God.

Finally, on Sallah day, I followed a tour company –My hangout buddy to Omu resort. I always love to go on vacation with this brand because it is always fun plus you get to meet new people and network.

As a brand, My hangout buddy seeks to provide the best experience and vacations to its customers so an opinion poll was shared to decide our next hangout. So, that is how I got another opportunity to visit Omu resort after my failed attempt.

The rain almost ruined my vacation to Omu resort Lagos but thankfully the weather cleared before noon. Since it was a festive day, the resort was full such that we had to wait for our turns to have access to most fun equipment in the resort.

Omu resort is one the best places to have a family hangout or picnic with friends. They provide huts or tents where you can stay together to have fun. Also, you can go with your own games like scrabble, cards, chess, ayo, etc to entertain you and your family.

However, if you need more engaging games, they offer entertaining games led by their staff. I really enjoyed their game activities, especially the tug of war and the dancing, which was some sort of exercise for me. And of course, these games are also perfect for team bonding because we had to learn to work together as strangers on my hangout.

Fun Free Recreational facilities

Omu resort provides some lovely free-to-access recreational fun equipment for both adults and children. There is an assortment of fun activities to partake in like swings, a mini pool for children, a mini golf course, a mini zoo, an aquarium, mission impossible, etc.

The amusement facility I would not recommend is the pirate ship. OMG!, I almost lost it, it is not fun at all. But a visit to the zoo is perfect. The zoo has a few wild animals like lions, snakes, and some domestic animals too.

Paid Recreational facilities

If you don’t mind spending additional money to explore omu resorts, you can opt for paid access to their facilities. Such activities include horse riding (500 nairas), riding a quad bike (1000naira), kayaking  (500naira), paintballing, etc.

Personally, I  love riding quad bikes, it was so much. It gave me a boost of confidence as soon as I could work it. Although, I rode terribly at first because I don’t know how to drive a bike or car. So, I will recommend you try it out. However, I will also recommend you try kayaking but I am hydrophobic so, I couldn’t do it.

Where to explore on your first Visit in Peru? Best places to visit in Peru

As stated earlier, Peru is a magical country and you will need a lot of time to discover all the places that it has to offer, but I will recommend you the MUST to see places in your first visit of Peru.

As you land in Peru, you will arrive in Lima. Maybe you don’t know, but after Cairo, Lima is the second biggest city in the middle of a dessert. Lima is the capital city of Peru, the only capital city in the whole South American continent located by the seashore. With 10 million inhabitants, 1/3 of the Peruvian population Lima has become in the last years in the gastronomical city of the world.

A taste of Peruvian cuisine

Peruvian cuisine has become worldwide know, not only because of the richness and diversity of the ingredients used in the different dishes. This is because of the innovative techniques by famous national chefs- Gaston Acurio, Virgilio Martinez and Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura -which is a fusion of different world dishes and peruvian cuisine. An example of such dish is the Nikkei kitchen. If you are a foodie, you need to visit our famous restaurant ranked in the 50 Best restaurants: Central, Maido and Astrid & Gaston, you won’t regret it.

Explore Lima

Lima, Called the City of Kings, Pearl of the Pacific and the Garden City, during the 16th to 18th centuries it was the seat of power for the Spanish Viceroyalty in America, as can be seen in its ancestral architecture. A city of contrasts, where bold, modern buildings stand next to pre – Inca millennial huacas or ceremonial sites.

Lima has a lot to offer, since the modernity of shopping malls, modern museums such as the famous MALI, the MATE of the  world known photographer Mario Testino and the Parque de las Aguas, and also the ancient huacas in the middle of the city, in the heart of Miraflores in the restaurant La huaca Pucllana, a perfect location to have a spectacular dinner aside the magnificent Huaca.

Lima, Peru

Another nice activity recommended in Lima is experiencing the riding The peruvian Paso Horses. You can visit on a Full- day the famous vast archaeological citadel of Pachacamac, located 45 minutes far from Lima. This temple was dedicated to the deity Pachacamac, was believed to he was the creator of the universe and it was the divinity adored by the old Andean civilizations.

The site comprises pyramidal temples and enclosures built by successive pre-Colombian civilizations and finally the Incas. Highlights include the Temple of Pachacamac, the sun God shrine, and the Palace of the Chosen women or Virgins of the Sun.

Best places to visit in Peru: What do in Barranco

Another place you can explore after Lima is Barranco. Traditional dishes to try, are of course a ceviche, and I would recommend to go to Canta Rana a famous Cevicheria located in Barranco the bohemian district of the capital City. Ask for a Ceviche, Arroz con Mariscos and of course a Pisco Sour our National Drink. Pisco Sour, is a drink made of Pisco, ice, egg white, lemon and sugar, it is very tasty! But don’t confuse it sweetness… it can be tricky… so be careful with it!! I’m sure you will love it!

While you are in Barranco, you need to visit also the Puente de los Suspiros and la Bajada de los Baños. While crossing the “Puente de los Suspiros” hold your breath and cross the bridge while thinking in a wish… if you manage to do it, the popular sayings say your wish may come true. Near the Puente de los Suspiros you will Find the restaurant “tio Mario”, ask for some anticuchos and for dessert some picarones.

A quick visit to Pachacamac is another place to know. Explore the ‘Casa Hacienda Rizo Patron’ (Peruvian Hacienda House), located in the valley of Lurin (10 minutes from Pachacamac temple), in its beautiful gardens, a Peruvian Horsewoman “Amazona” will introduce you to the world of the Peruvian Paso Horse, narrating the story of this noble animal. You will have there the opportunity to ride the horse and continue eating our amazing food.

I could continue writing a lot about Lima, but these are the highlights I recommend. Of course, don’t forget to visit Miraflores and the Historical Lima City Centre where the Main Square, Cathedral, The Town Hall and Government Palace are Located. In as much as you want to set aside funds for your travel goals. There are some things you need to ensure that your saving goals are feasible.

  • Reduce your debt. Debt from bank loans, car loans, or credit cards makes it so hard to save for travel. This obligation you have to meet monthly taking a huge cut from your paycheck. You never know how bad taking on debts is until you have little left to live on after debt from your paycheck. So, to make your travel goal feasible to pay off your debt to allow room for savings from your paycheck
  • Plan and estimate your cost of travel. If you’re traveling within your country or state, it will cost less. On the other hand, international travel will cost more. So, decide where you are traveling to and the estimated cost of achieving this.

These tips are easy to enable reach your saving goals for your travel. They are super easy to implement and realistic too. After reaching your saving goals, the next step is to travel. And because we love to save more on travel, you can sign up for Jet card program. In this way you get to travel at anytime, gain travel miles towards other trips, save cost on ground transportation as you touch down etc. Below are my 5 tried and tested tips on how to save for travel.

Have Penny Jar or Box

Sometimes, setting a goal to save a large sum from your paycheck monthly may seem unrealistic. You have to inconvenience yourself let of go such huge sums. We all have bills to pay each month. And the essence of working is to be able to afford such bills.

So, saving for travel doesn’t need to take a huge chunk of your salary. Buy a penny jar or box ( typically known as kolo or piggy bank) to save money for your travel. This a great way to save money for travel as a student. You will be amazed at how much you can raise from your daily loose change dropped in your piggy bank.

You can save the excess money from your budgeted home expense like grocery shopping or hair making. Also, you save tips from your workplace or transport fare if you have a free ride. You can save these small sums for about 1 year, 6 months or 9months.

The money gathered from home piggy banks can be added to other small savings to achieve your travel goals. So, for an easy and convenient way to save for travel, shop for a piggy bank. There are different options available in the market, Amazon, Jumia, or your local market like Oshodi, etc. I prefer a box with no lock that I can break at the end of my saving term. You can choose a box with locks or jars with a lid depending on what you want.

Monthly direct debits

Another super-easy way to save money for travel is through monthly direct debits. This takes a lot of discipline to achieve. Set up a direct debit of a small amount into another savings account, mutual funds, or Entrepreneur trust fund (ETF). My best way to save through monthly direct debit is through ETF. So, if you plan to travel in 6 months, this is an easy way on how to save money for vacation in 6 months.

My reason is that mutual funds and savings accounts are easy to access especially when you’re pressed for cash. On the other hand, ETF keeps this money for you for a year. You can save as low as 1000 naira weekly to 10000naira weekly. This platform also has other benefits such as business advisory service, medical health check, and easy access to instant loans.

So, if you’re planning to go on a vacation by next year June, start saving as early as possible. You will get your money back by December every year. I always look forward to the cash out period. This is because all my small weekly saving through the year is paid back. You use such funds towards your next vacation. Sign up to Entrepreneur trust fund, add your debit card details and start saving.

Live frugal lifestyle

In this case, I am not asking to live a pathetic life. We all know that as our pay rises so does your taste for things. So, if you normally take a bus to the office, as your pay increase, you will switch to cabs. This is because your buying power has increased.

The easiest way to save money for travel is to cut down on your luxury expense. Use discount codes for online grocery shopping ( from Jumia, spar reward card, or supermart ). For Supermart online grocery store, use code: Maggie to get 2000 naira into your wallet for your first order. Also, you can shop for clothes from online affordable sites like eBay, Amazon, shein, yoins, Etsy, etc.

Snail Basket from Super mart Nigeria, Mile 12 market

Another way to save from clothes is through thrift shopping. You never know the gems you can get from thrift stores. I have gotten classic and vintage outfits from thrift stores. You can also read my post on the top 5 best places to shop for thrift in Lagos. The savings from your frugal lifestyle you will save towards your travel goals.

Sell off unused items

Another easy way you can save for travel is to sell items that you no longer use. You can declutter your closet of good fashion items you no longer wear. This outfit or items you can sell on Jiji or Instagram and proceeds put off for your travel.

Asides clothes, you can include shoes, old furniture, bags or vintage jewelry, and list them for sale. Instead of throwing out pre-loved items, you can sell them out. This also helps to recycle and save the environment from waste.

You can also check out this extensive list of things to sell at school to make money if you’re a student. The proceeds you will then save towards your travel goals

Side hustle

The world is going so fast and lots of businesses are springing up daily. You can save money for travel from side jobs, business, or freelance jobs (Upwork or Fiverr). Most businesses no longer require office workers as they trying to minimize cost.

So you can apply for a virtual assistant role in such businesses. You can render services like customer service, content creator, social media manager, and sales agent.

6 Best Places to Visit in Switzerland

You are excited to visit an exotic locale for your upcoming tour. But to have a stress-free and happy time, it is wise to invest some time upfront to make sure you have covered your bases. To help alleviate a lot of stress and last-minute running around, we created this pre-travel checklist.
Here are 10 things you should plan to do before travel. Also, you can read up the safety travel tips you need to follow after lockdown.

Check Your Passport and Visa

It is compulsory in many countries that your passport should be valid for six months after your return date. Most State departments recommend that you should renew your passport no less than nine months before it is set to expire.
In case you plan to rent a car or drive at your destination, try to check whether an international driver’s license is needed or if your country license will suffice.

Manage Your Cash Flow

If you are traveling domestically, make sure to have enough cash with you. This way, you will not arrive short on money and have to search for an ATM immediately. Additionally, you will be able to save on ATM fees at a machine run by someone other than your bank.
In case you are traveling overseas, the most economical option is to visit ATM as soon as you arrive at your destination and make a withdrawal in the local currency.
If you are planning your tour for a long duration, it is better to do some saving in advance and avoid unnecessary spending.

Check the Weather

Weather is one of the most important factors that affect your trip positively or negatively. Of course, wherever you are going, you know about the regular weather at this particular time.
But there is always an expectation of prevailing weather patterns, mainly during transitional seasons. Have look at the weather forecast, make your packing strategy, and make a prepared tour.

Purchase Health and Travel Insurance

Before you travel, make sure you have health and travel insurance. If you are going for international tour, see if your insurance includes international coverage.
If not, think of buying a short-term policy that will cover you while you are abroad, in case something should happen.
Policies and coverage can vary from company to company, but the basic idea is that you can have your money refunded if you trip has to be postponed, cancelled or cut short for any reason.

Book Your Accommodation in Advance

If you are planning to travel next month and have a fixed schedule, it is better to book accommodation for the duration of your trip. It would give you a piece of mind.
If you trip is longer than book your first few days. That will ensure you have a place to go on arrival. Thereafter, you can take advice for your hotel to do booking for other days.

Stay Prepared for Your First Day

See, the first day of your trip would be quite tiring, it is often lost to logistics and unfamiliar surroundings. First you would haul yourself and your stuff to a resting place. Then you will have to find out exactly where you are, which places are nearby and how you can use this time best. Planning ahead would help you make the most of that first confusing day.

Gain some knowledge

When you are going to any particular place where the language, dress and other things are quite different. It is better to do some research about that place. Learn how to say simple phrases in their language like thank you and sorry. It would be quite helpful for you.

Do Your Packing Properly

Apart from your electronic devices, do bring valuables with you like expensive jewellery and other items. Because these products will attract thieves who are experts at targeting tourists.
If you do bring valuables, travel with them in your carry-on, or it is better to keep them locked up in the hotel safe.
Use closed baggage tags to label your every bag. Put your name, contact number and address on your luggage.

Don’t forget your Credit Card

Credit cards are great option when you are travelling. They do not only help you during financial scarcity but you can earn points while you travel.
So check with your bank about the best offering available in the card. If you have not taken any credit card, apply it for now.

Always Carry a Survival Kit

While doing a lot of planning, we often forget small but vital things. Have a survival kit with you that contain headphones, sleep aid, eye mask, earplugs, hand sanitizer, prescription medications if you are taking any

These are 10 things you should plan to do before travel. Keep doing your research, because the more prepared you would be, the more you will enjoy and benefit from the journey.
