Want to travel soon? Here are 8 tips for scoring the cheapest flight tickets for travel:

Be Flexible

Everything in life is susceptible to change, and you should too! You may have a date in mind to travel, but is that the best date cost-wise?

Before, I used to be a person who never liked to tweak her travel itinerary. Once I have a certain date or period in mind, I ensure that I travel that time. However, I began to notice that I was paying higher for flights during certain periods than others. It made me realize that airlines adjust their prices based on demands and sometimes are considered peak periods.

With this realization, I began to consciously avoid peak travel times like holidays and major events as the flight tickets are usually more expensive due to increased demand. Instead, I become more open to being flexible and traveling during non-peak times.

Book in Advance

As a traveler, this was one of the first tips I learned when it concerns scoring cheap flight tickets. When I first learned this tip, I was confused and wondered about the ideology behind it. After all, situations can arise that may require changing of travel date.

But when I thought about it more, I realized that flight prices tend to rise as the departure date approaches. Soon, I became one of those who can even book her flight ticket a year ahead. Yes, call me dramatic, but if it makes me score a cheap flight ticket, then I will do it!

Use Fare Comparison Websites

The beauty of technology and advancement is that there will always be a platform, app, or website that can help you with any challenge. When it comes to getting cheap flight tickets, there are websites that specialize in comparing prices across multiple airlines and booking platforms.

Thanks to these websites, I don’t have to start checking different airlines individually. Instead, I go on these websites, input my travel dates, and I see a list of available airlines for the dates and the possible flight prices.

There are many available options when it comes to fare comparison websites and you can choose anyone you desire. Some of them include but are not limited to skyscanner and Google Flights.

If you haven’t used any fare comparison website before, start using them now to get the best flight ticket prices! My favorite flight comparison platform is Trip.com. You get the best flight deals pooled from different airlines.

If you haven’t tried them out, what are you waiting for. Click here to trip.com to score cheap flight tickets for your travel.

Be Open to Layovers

On a regular day, I’m the kind of person who wants to hop on one flight and get to her destination. However, I know that I do not have such a luxurious option when I desire getting cheap options for flight tickets. Hence, it is important to be open to the idea of layovers when seeking a cheap flight ticket for travel.

Direct flights are often more convenient, but can be more expensive. Layovers can extend your travel time, but the flights are often cheaper. The best way I deal with layover flights is seeing it as an opportunity to explore another city for whatever timeframe it gives. Needs things to do, check these fun things to do while on a layover.

Thus when searching for flights, explore alternate routes that may involve multiple stops. These flights are the best options for getting cheap flight tickets.

Tips for scoring the cheapest flight tickets

Clear Browser Cookies

For some reason, this is the most popular trick people know for scoring the cheapest flight ticket for travel. At first I had my doubts about it, but when I eventually gave into the pressure and tried it out, it worked.

The idea behind clearing browser cookies is that airlines may adjust prices based on your browsing history. The things you search for and the websites you visit may give the airline reasons to want to hike your flight fare.

To avoid such possibilities, it is  best to clear your browser cookies before searching for a flight. Or, search for flights in incognito mode; it is usually my go-to option.

Leverage Loyalty Programs and Miles

Many airlines, both local and international, run loyalty programs for frequent fliers. It is their way of rewarding you for sticking with them, and you should utilize it!

The way it works is that they accumulate your miles and points, and use them to give you discounts in the future. Some people may even be lucky to get a free flight!

I wouldn’t say you should depend on this option as it works best for frequent travelers. However, it is something to consider when seeking cheap flight tickets for travel. So, keep an eye on promotions and opportunities to maximize your rewards.

Utilize Discounts

Asides loyalty programs, airlines also run discounts for certain people like students and youths. If you fall under this category, you should definitely utilize your discounts to get cheap flight tickets.

Typically, you would need a proof of identification to show that you fall under this category. Often, your student ID card should suffice.

If you fall under this category and want to book a flight, go through the website of the airline and see if they offer such discounts. You can even go the extra mile and put a call across to them and see what they have for you.

Set Fare Alerts and Notification

Many airlines and travel websites or agencies offer fare alert services. Sign up for these alerts to get notified when ticket prices for your desired route drops. This way, you are always in the know and can hop on available cheap flight ticket options.

In addition, some travel agencies also offer package deals that ensure you do not spend much on trips. Keep an eye out for such packages as they help you secure cheap flights and even accommodation! WayAway is an all inclusive travel website you need to subscribe to.
