I must say I am impressed. Especially with the whole register yourself at home and the home delivery service. Although home delivery in Nigeria is for some states, Lagos, Abuja and Kano. Also, free delivery is being considered for US and UK. Sweet right.

Why this Nigeria international passport process update? This is ensuring the seamless renewal of passport. Also, this helps to reduce the visit to NIS offices globally.

Earlier this year, NIS started the process of Capturing yourself at home for your passport renewal. Since then, it has been improving on this online process to reduce middlemen and offer quick passport renewal.

When will this contactless process for Nigeria passport renewal commence? This process has already commenced as at the time of writing this article. However, I cannot confirm if this process is efficient for users. Also, this contactless Nigeria passport renewal will start from Nigeria in diaspora: UK, USA and Italy and Canada. However, by Dec 1, Nigerians at home will enjoy this service too.

  • You get to renew your passport without visiting NIS office
  • Also, you get to enjoy delivery straight to your home address or address provided on the platform

The cons:

  • As at this time the app is yet to be available on google play or app store
  • Only Nigerians Living in Canada can apply now
  • Also, Nigerians at home have to wait till December to access this service
  • You have to check for Eligibility on the app for your own passport. This is to check if you’re qualified to apply. I guess this will be dependent on your location while applying

Below are the steps to apply for your Nigerian international passport renewal.

  1. Create your profile: use a valid email address to create your profile
  2. Validate eligibility to apply for Nigerian passport renewal
  3. Enter your Identity details: Provide your NIN and current or expired international passport number
  4. Fill in your personal details and upload necessary documents: NIN slip, Birth Certificate.
  5. Capture Biometric: You can now use your mobile phones to capture fingerprint
  6. Review and submit: Check what you entered. Make it is correct and check for errors too.
  7. Make payment: You need to make payment after validating your data is correct.

The final step is to submit for process. When your renewed passport is ready, you will get it delivered to your provide address.
