Marrakech, Morocco

It is no brainer that I would have Marrakech on the list of cities that couples should visit for a romantic getaway. On social media, people who have visited this city have made video that showcase how fun and beautiful it can be.

Marrakech is an exotic city that seduces with its vibrant atmosphere, colorful souks, and majestic palaces. Everytime pictures and videos from this place pop up on my timeline, I wish I could teleport myself there immediately.

As couples visiting this city, there are lots of things to do. You can stroll hand in hand through the Jardin Majorelle, relax in a traditional hammam, and enjoy a candlelit dinner in one of the city’s opulent riads.

The sensual aromas of spices and the charm of Medina’s narrow streets make Marrakech a perfect destination for romance.

Ouidah, Benin Republic

You must have heard different stories about Ouidah, but did you know that it is a romantic city? Commonly, this city is known for its historic heritage of being a key location during the slave trade era. However, it has unique cultural sites that are worth exploring. Some of these landmarks include the Temple of Pythons and the Door of No Return.

Asides from these cultural sites, there are also clean and serene beaches in this city. This makes it an ideal spot for couples seeking intimacy and quiet time.  If you’re looking to enjoy a romantic getaway on a budget, this is the city to visit. Zanzibar, Tanzania

On my last trip to Tanzania, I was particularly excited to visit Zanzibar as I had heard lots of amazing stories about this city. And let me tell you, Zanzibar met my expectations!

It is worthy to note that Zanzibar is an island paradise famous for its white-sand beaches and pure waters. You would have to brace yourself for the cold and windiness in this place which isn’t unexpected.

The windiness came as a shock to me as I had gone to Zanzibar from Dar Es Salam that was hot. It was a welcoming experience to being in a colder and refreshing atmosphere.

Another thing that stands out about Zanzibar is its beautiful architecture. They were a sight for the eyes, and I made sure to take lots of pictures.

Whether you’re taking sunset cruises on a traditional dhow boat or relaxing in a beachside villa, Zanzibar provides a dreamy setting for couples looking for both relaxation and adventure.

It would be wrong of me not to mention Victoria Falls as one of the most romantic cities in Africa to visit as a couple. It is one of the world’s natural wonders with the best views, offering an unparalleled romantic experience.

Mahe, Seychelles

Seychelles is synonymous with romance, and Mahe, the largest island, is no exception. With its powdery beaches, crystal-clear waters, and luxurious resorts, Mahe is a dream destination for honeymooners and couples alike.

You can also take a sunset hot air balloon ride over the desert or a romantic cruise along the Nile to make your visit truly unforgettable.

Bazaruto, Mozambique

Bazaruto Archipelago is a tropical paradise, perfect for couples looking for an intimate getaway. I like to describe this place as a home away from home due to the peace and calm you would feel when at this place.

With its crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and secluded beaches, Bazaruto is a haven for snorkeling, diving, and simply relaxing. The island also offers luxurious resorts, making it an ideal destination for honeymooners or couples celebrating a special occasion.

Windhoek, Namibia

This is Namibia’s capital city, and a romantic destination for couples looking for adventure and tranquility. This city is surrounded by stunning landscapes, and couples can even explore the nearby dunes of the Namib Desert or take a scenic drive through Etosha National Park.

Windhoek’s charming cafés, markets, and art galleries stand as a plus as they  add a unique charm to this African city.

Lagos, Nigeria

How can I make this list without Lagos Nigeria? This is hub of business and entertainment in Nigeria. There are so many recreational centers, beaches and fun places to see.

If you luxury on a budget, opt to stay at any of its beach houses. The most popular was thr landmark beach and hotels.

Other options include light house beach, Jara beach and resort or the ilashe beach. You may say that I love beaches with these options. But what is a trip to Africa with any of the beaches?

How to book the best things to do as couple in Africa

Knowing what to is one thing and doing it is another. It is quite difficult to plan your itinerary alone to a new city. You will either be visiting only hotspot. Also, you may stay too far from the main attractions.

This has happened to me severally. My trip in cross river state was very stressful. I still get panic attacks whenever I remember. The whole purpose of travelling for is relaxation. However, if the things to do or places to visit is too far from your accommodation, then it becomes stressful.

So, I highly recommend you plan your itinerary with Getyourguide. With them you already know the things to do. What is left is where to stay and how close it is to your hotel or hostel. You can ask them any question and I guarantee that they will give the best travel advisory for any city you want to visit. If Nigeria is on your list, check out our detailed Nigeria travel advisory.
